Requirements
  • Previous critical care or emergency department registered nurse experience is required.
  • The candidate must be able to work under stress.
  • The candidate must be a graduate of an accredited nursing school.
  • The candidate must hold an active South Carolina Registered Nurse license.
  • The candidate must be certified in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support.
  • The candidate must be able to stand or sit for extended periods.
  • The candidate must have manual dexterity and fine motor skills for taking patient vital signs, administering injections, and conducting physical examinations.
  • The candidate must be able to lift and move patients or medical equipment as needed.
  • The candidate must have visual acuity and color perception to read medical charts, documents, and monitors accurately.
  • The candidate must have the auditory ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues and perceive alarms or patient instructions.
  • The candidate must have the stamina and resilience to handle the physical and emotional demands of patient care, including long shifts and stressful situations.
  • The candidate must be mobile enough to navigate clinical environments and move between patient rooms, offices, and other facility areas.
  • The candidate must comply with infection control protocols and properly use personal protective equipment.
Responsibilities
  • Prioritize patient rounding and assessments in collaboration with bedside nursing staff.
  • Use Modified Early Warning Scores, prior medical history, admission location information, and other indicators of high-risk patients to prioritize assessments.
  • Evaluate patient care and hospital practices in inpatient settings for compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and evidence-based practices.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support staff, patient, and visitor public health safety.
  • Respond to Code Blue and Rapid Response notifications, BAT Alerts, nurse-driven requests for clinical evaluation, and other indicators as directed.
  • Assess high-risk patients each shift based on clinical indicators, previous critical care admissions or transfers, and past medical history.
  • Provide real-time coaching and education to staff regarding appropriate Modified Early Warning Scores, high-risk indicators, and Code Blue and Rapid Response assessments.
  • Collaborate with nurses, Patient Care Technicians, Hospitalist Medicine providers, intensive care unit intensivists, pulmonologists, and other clinical staff using appropriate communication and education methods.
