About the company

NVIDIA designs the chips and software that power artificial intelligence and sells complete data center systems to cloud providers, AI labs, and other businesses, along with GeForce graphics cards for gamers. Its GPUs, chips that perform thousands of calculations at once, became the main hardware for AI after researchers used them to train the AlexNet image-recognition model in 2012. NVIDIA connects many GPUs with its own processors and networking gear into servers and rack-sized computers, and developers program them through its CUDA software. These systems bring in most of its sales, and it also makes chips for cars and robots. Jensen Huang co-founded NVIDIA in 1993, and it is based in Santa Clara, California.

What believers are saying

  • AI demand is still surging: data center sales rose 117% to $89 billion in the quarter ending July 2026.
  • Stock grants are worth more: shares hit a record in October 2026, up 28% for the year.
  • Engineering dominates hiring: 1,722 of NVIDIA's 2,686 job listings in October 2026 were in engineering.

What critics are saying

  • Big buyers are hedging: Meta's February 2026 agreement covers 6 gigawatts of AMD chips.
  • Financing its buyers is getting harder: lenders pushed back on NVIDIA's $500 billion chip-backed loan plan in October 2026.
  • Staff described long hours: Bloomberg's August 2024 interviews reported seven-day weeks, late nights and shouting matches.

What makes NVIDIA unique

  • Rivals must match its software too: over 7.5 million developers use CUDA and other NVIDIA tools to program its chips.
  • The CEO has a broad direct staff: Jensen Huang says over 60 people report to him, without one-on-ones.
  • People rarely leave: NVIDIA's yearly staff turnover is 3.7%, versus a 21.9% average across the tech industry.

Chip stocks slip as OpenAI's $50B revenue figure undercuts $70B reports

Semiconductor stocks fell in the week ended October 9 after a strong start to the month. The Financial Times reported that OpenAI told investors its annualised revenue was nearing $50 billion at the end of September, below the roughly $70 billion cited in media reports. Chip valuations are closely tied to expectations for AI infrastructure spending, so the PHLX Semiconductor Index finished the week lower while the broader market held up better. The index was up 73% year to date as of late September. Higher long-term Treasury yields and rising oil prices added pressure. Among individual stocks, TSMC reported September revenue of NT$511.86 billion, up 54.6% from a year earlier. Intel fell after Elon Musk suggested TSMC could join his Terafab chip project in Texas, and Arm shares dropped during its licensing trial with Qualcomm.

Nvidia GPU access explodes as 323 providers emerge, up 55% in 11 months

Nvidia GPU access has diversified dramatically as AI demand surges, with over 300 "neoclouds" now renting chips to businesses, up 55% in under 11 months, according to researcher SemiAnalysis. The chipmaker anticipates $108 billion in revenue for the October quarter, an 89% year-over-year increase. Companies access GPUs through multiple channels. Hyperscalers like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google serve major clients, with Anthropic and OpenAI committing over $500 billion between Amazon and Microsoft. However, supply constraints have spawned neoclouds like CoreWeave and Nebius, which offer specialised services and flexible arrangements. Alternative options include Oracle's bring-your-own-GPU model, tactical deals with firms like SpaceX, and traditional on-premises installations. Five clients now account for at least 10% of Nvidia's accounts receivable, up from three in January.

Musk confirms SpaceX will use Nvidia GPUs exclusively, including in $40B chip purchase for space data centres

Elon Musk recently praised Nvidia GPUs as the best available option for AI processing, stating that SpaceX will exclusively use them. Some of those processors will head into space next year on the company's first data center test satellites. SpaceX is raising $40 billion to purchase more Nvidia chips. The deployment will test whether Nvidia's latest processors are ready for the space economy or need enhancements for orbital conditions. Nvidia's market capitalisation is approaching $6 trillion. The chipmaker more than doubled its revenue year over year in its fiscal 2027 second quarter, posting a 62% net profit margin. The company is forecasting 70% revenue growth for fiscal 2028. Nvidia trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of 28.5, below the tech industry average.

Nvidia's head of corporate communications leaves after four months

Anna Soellner has left her position as head of corporate communications at Nvidia after approximately four months, Business Insider has learned. She joined the chipmaker around June, according to her LinkedIn profile. During her brief tenure, Nvidia announced a nearly $13 billion acquisition of Hugging Face and reported quarterly revenue of $96 billion. Soellner reported to Mylene Mangalindan, Nvidia's vice president of corporate communications. Before Nvidia, Soellner spent over eight years at Reddit as vice president of communications, helping lead the company through its 2024 initial public offering. She previously held senior communications roles at the Motion Picture Association and the Centre for American Progress, and served as a senior adviser at the US Treasury Department. Nvidia did not respond to requests for comment.

Nvidia forecasts $108B Q3 revenue as stock climbs 8.3% since August guidance

Nvidia stock has gained 8.3% since management forecast higher sales for its fiscal third quarter on 26 August 2026, compared with 1.1% for the S&P 500. The stock currently trades at $230.48, above its 50-day and 200-day moving averages, indicating an intact uptrend according to technical analysts. Management forecast third-quarter revenue of $108 billion, approximately 12.5% higher than the second quarter's $96 billion. However, gross margin is expected to decline to 74%, down from 75% in the second quarter, with further compression to 71-72% anticipated in the fourth quarter due to rising memory prices. The next earnings call is scheduled for 17 November. Investors will monitor whether revenue meets targets and if supply constraints ease earlier than expected.
