Requirements
  • Hold a PhD in History or a relevant field by the beginning of the 2027–2028 academic year; ABD candidates in the final stages of completing their degrees will be considered.
  • Demonstrate commitment to excellent teaching and scholarly potential, including a research agenda and plans for peer-reviewed publication.
  • Be broadly trained to teach courses across the department curriculum in research methods, professional skill building, and introductory, upper-level, and capstone courses, including courses supporting the University’s first-year and general education program.
  • Be prepared to contribute to a multidisciplinary department alongside faculty and students in History, Languages, Global Cultural Studies, and Philosophy.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduates from a variety of disciplines and fields of interest within the department.
  • Engage in service with the department, college, and university.
  • Submit a complete application including a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching philosophy, diversity statement, research interests and agenda statement, student course evaluations if available, a sample syllabus, and three letters of reference.
Responsibilities
  • Teach courses supporting the History major and minor, including the Global History and Public History concentrations, as well as the Global Cultural Studies major and minor.
  • Teach a five-course load per year within a workload of 45% teaching, 35% research, and 20% service.
  • Lead initiatives related to one or more global history topic areas, including Africa, Europe and European empires, Latin America, the Middle East, and Russia or the Soviet Union.
  • Expand the department’s history offerings beyond its current strengths in East Asian history and twentieth-century United States history.
  • Teach courses and lead initiatives in the Public History concentration for the History major.
  • Plan and lead travel seminars and study abroad or study away experiences.
  • Contribute to the Bialystok Cemetery Restoration project.
  • Cultivate a possible partnership with the Holocaust Museum & Education Center and plan new public history, experiential learning, and service-learning initiatives in the greater Boston area and beyond.
  • Conduct research and pursue peer-reviewed publication.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students and participate in departmental, college, and university service.

  • Relevant experience and expertise that could support a partnership with the Holocaust Museum & Education Center or the development of public history, experiential learning, and service-learning initiatives.
