  • A Michener Institute Certificate, an equivalent Laboratory Assistant qualification, a Career Canada Certificate, or OSMT is required.
  • Demonstrated problem recognition and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to organize work and set priorities are required.
  • Ability to work independently or as a team member in a fast-paced environment is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal and communication skills are required.

  • Ability to use provided protective equipment and identify and report hazards is required.

Responsibilities
  • Perform duties in the specimen receiving area.
  • Plant all specimens to the appropriate media.
  • Answer requests for results.
  • Assist the Senior Technologist and Operations Manager with general duties in the Microbiology department.
  • Work days, afternoons, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
Desired Qualifications
  • Six months of bacteriology experience with knowledge of media and different incubation times for setup in a fully automated microbiology laboratory.
  • Knowledge of setting up MALDI, Kirby-Bauer, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing using instruments such as Bruker and Phoenix.
  • Ability to speak another language.
