Cyber attacks: Which UK companies have recently been targeted by hackers?

Cyber attacks: Which UK companies have recently been targeted by hackers? By Clara Margotin, Press Association Published 13th Oct 2026, 12:45 BST The retail sector has been targeted many times in the past two years, with M&S, Co-op and Harrods among the biggest names being hit by hackers. Retailers across the UK have faced a spate of cyber attacks in the past week, prompting experts to warn the incidents should act as a "brutal alarm call". The owner of fashion brands Hobbs and Whistles, Swedish fashion giant H&M and fast fashion business Asos all said they were investigating potential hacks in the past week. The UK retail sector has been targeted many times in the past two years, with Marks & Spencer (M&S), Co-op and Harrods among the biggest names being hit by hackers. Susannah Streeter, chief investment strategist at investment service Wealth Club, said: "Corporate defences are looking dangerously thin amid an onslaught of cyber attacks against businesses. "This spate of infiltrations into retailers' systems should serve as a brutal alarm call for organisations grappling with increasingly sophisticated digital threats." Here is a list of the largest cyber attacks reported over the last two years. TFG London The owner behind womenswear brands Hobbs and Whistles apologised to customers on Tuesday after being hit by a cyber attack. South African retail group The Foschini Group (TFG) said it became aware of a "cybersecurity incident" on Sunday, affecting its UK subsidiary TFG London with "certain of its IT systems" impacted - specifically its Phase Eight, Hobbs and Whistles brands. TFG said there was "no reason to believe that payment information is at risk", adding it was working with cybersecurity specialists to investigate the incident. TFG London's other high street brands Inside Story and White Stuff were not affected, neither were TFG's operations in Africa and Australia. Swedish fashion giant H&M said on Monday it was investigating claims it was targeted by cybercriminal group Shinyhunters last week. The hacking gang had previously claimed it was behind a major cyber attack on JLR last summer, along with other hacking groups known as Scattered Spider and Lapsus. An H&M spokesperson said on Tuesday: "We are aware of information circulating online regarding a potential cyber security incident and are currently investigating the claims. "At this time, we have not found any indications that our data environment has been compromised." Fast fashion retailer Asos last week said an "unauthorised party" had gained access to some personal data, including names and contact details. Last Tuesday, Asos customers received a phone alert saying that the retailer had been hacked, which claimed the data storage firm Snowflake had been compromised. Asos said the cyber attacker gained access to some personal data, including names and contact details. Snowflake later said the breach was not caused by a vulnerability or flaw with its platform. Welsh police force Dyfed-Powys Police identified a cyber attack on September 14, which it said may have resulted in staff information being compromised. The force said the incident had caused disruption to some non-emergency systems, adding no personal data relating to members of the public was thought to have been accessed. An investigation was launched and the force said it would provide further updates when "in a position to do so". UK airports Three major UK airports were hit by a "cyber security incident" in which the data of about 8.7 million customers was accessed, Manchester Airport Group (Mag) said in August. The company, which operates Manchester Airport, London Stansted and East Midlands Airport, said "at no point has passenger safety or aviation security been compromised" during the incident. The majority of the data accessed was restricted to customer email addresses, phone numbers, vehicle registration numbers and postcodes, and related to wifi sign-ups within the airports' terminals, it was understood. Mag said the hackers demanded a ransom fee which was not paid, and did not disclose the amount. Healthcare technology firm Craneware said in July it had been hit by a cyber attack with hackers stealing some customer and employee data. The Edinburgh-based company provides software to the US healthcare industry, including thousands of hospitals, clinics and pharmacies. Craneware said a significant volume of file names were viewed and exfiltrated through the hack. The incident was later contained and did not disrupted customer services or the company's operations, according to the business and external specialists brought on board. JLR plunged to a heavy loss last year after booking almost £200 million in extra costs linked to a major cyber attack which saw the firm shut its factories for more than a month. The UK's largest car manufacturer stopped production across its UK factories for five weeks from September 1 2025 after being targeted by hackers a day earlier. The group saw revenues plummet by more than £1 billion, around 24%, to £4.9 billion for the quarter to September last year. The ShinyHunters group claimed on a Telegram channel they were behind the incident, along with other English language-speaking hackers Scattered Spider and LapsusS. M&S spent months dealing with disruption caused by a cyber incident last year. The high street chain was forced to stop all online sales for about six weeks and had empty shelves because of disruption to its logistics systems, after it was targeted by hackers around the Easter weekend in 2025. The London-listed firm said in May this year that its pre-tax profits had fallen by 23.8% to £671.4 million for the year to the end of March. The hack particularly impacted the group's fashion, home and beauty operations, with online sales suspended, stock flow disrupted and availability restricted by the cyber attack. Scattered Spider were later blamed for the incident. Co-op apologised to its customers in May last year after "highly sophisticated" hackers attacked the retailer's IT systems. The Manchester-based co-operative was unable to take card payments in some of its stores and shoppers faced empty shelves because of the continued fallout. Co-op reported underlying operating losses of £32 million for the six months to July last year, when it was hit by the damaging hack. Harrods was hit by two cyber attacks last year, although the group later indicated there had been "limited" financial impact. The luxury department store restricted internet access across its sites in May last year as a precautionary measure following an attempt to gain unauthorised access to its systems.

H&M Kids and Morris & Co. bring Strawberry Thief and archival motifs to new autumn childrenswear collection.

H&M Kids and Morris & Co. bring Strawberry Thief and archival motifs to new autumn childrenswear collection. The collaboration reworks Morris & Co. heritage patterns across knitwear, dresses and coordinated pieces for babies and children, launching online in selected markets on 8 October The H&M Kids and Morris & Co. collaboration reworks heritage patterns including Strawberry Thief across autumn childrenswear for babies and children. H&M Kids has collaborated with Morris & Co. on an autumn childrenswear collection that reinterprets the British design house's heritage patterns, including William Morris's Strawberry Thief, alongside animal motifs, botanicals, florals and two-tone designs. The range spans knitwear, dresses, matching sets and separates for babies and children, with details including intarsia knitting, embroidery, corduroy, wool-mix fabrics, crochet trims and smocking. Morris & Co. H&M will be available online at hm.com in selected markets from 8 October. (PRESS RELEASE) 1-Oct-2026 - /EuropaWire/ - H&M Kids is joining forces with Morris & Co. this autumn for a childrenswear collection that brings reimagined heritage designs into everyday clothing for babies and children. The range centres on one of the British design house's best-known prints, Strawberry Thief, alongside birds, botanicals, signature florals and other archival-inspired motifs. The collaboration spans knitwear, dresses, matching sets and separates, combining a craft-led aesthetic with pieces designed for regular wear. Morris & Co. H&M will be available online at hm.com in selected markets from 8 October. Strawberry Thief has been central to the identity of Morris & Co. since William Morris designed it in 1883. The pattern's birds, strawberries and blossom remain immediately recognisable more than a century later. For the H&M collaboration, the design appears alongside Morris & Co. animal motifs and simpler two-tone patterns, reworked for childrenswear through intarsia knitting, placement embroidery and all-over printed separates, together with rustic stripes and quieter tonal pieces. Texture plays a prominent role throughout the collection, with brushed knit, corduroy and wool-mix fabrics used across smocked dresses, needlecord separates and scalloped-collar blouses. A colour palette of ivory, taupe, chestnut, dusky pink and deep teal gives the range a grounded autumnal feel, while crochet trims and floral embroidery add decorative detail. The overall approach combines nostalgic references with a contemporary childrenswear interpretation while reflecting the craftsmanship associated with both brands. "Our collaboration with Morris & Co. takes the storytelling of Strawberry Thief and brings it into everyday kidswear - pieces that feel rooted in craft but ready for real life. Together, we've created a collection that is about heritage made playful," says Sofia Löfstedt, Head of Kidswear Design at H&M. "Strawberry Thief is all about celebrating the small, wild details in daily life, which felt like the perfect starting point for a children's collection. The story of thrushes visiting the kitchen garden of Morris' countryside home is an idyllic fairy tale in itself, and working with H&M brings these designs to a new generation, in pieces made to be worn, loved and lived in," says Jessica Clayworth at Morris & Co. About Morris & Co. As a political theorist, publisher, environmental campaigner, poet, and outstanding designer, William Morris (1834-1896) was one of the single most influential figures of the nineteenth century, founding Morris & Co. (originally Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co.) in 1861. Under his direction, the company grew into a flourishing and fashionable Arts & Crafts decorating business renowned for wallpapers and textiles, becoming part of Sanderson & Sons in 1940. Today, the Sanderson Design Group builds on that proud heritage with the inventive reimagining of Morris & Co. classics, ever upholding the impeccable standard of craftsmanship that has defined all Morris & Co. products since inception. Guided by the creative intuition of William Morris, designs are inspired by treasures in the Morris & Co. archive, which houses historical logbooks, samples of each wallpaper, printed and woven textiles and original wooden printing blocks. With the ability to faithfully transform a space into an Arts & Crafts haven through evocation of the glorious drama and wonderment in nature, the authentic archival documents and designs of Morris & Co. continue to inspire interest and insatiable demand to this day. H&M overhauls its onsite search across more than 60 markets in technology partnership with Voyado.

H&M overhauls its onsite search across more than 60 markets in technology partnership with Voyado. H&M has overhauled its onsite search across more than 60 markets, working with Voyado. The retailer says that the move away from keyword matching to an intent driven model has reduced soft exits (where shoppers drift off because of friction rather than choice) by 80% and cut customer exits from search by 30%. Rather than matching search terms to product names, the new setup reads a range of signals at once: stock availability, add to bag actions, purchase behaviour, product newness, revenue performance and customer intent and updates rankings in real-time. "As our business grew, we needed a more intelligent approach to search, ranking, and discovery. We found Voyado to be the best fit for us." says Lars Gezelius, Acting Global Head of Digital at H&M. Erica Sandelin Ekelund, CEO at Voyado, says: "Search is a clear signal of what customers actually want. When a customer searches, they're not browsing - they're telling you. And many retailers are throwing that signal away. H&M recognised the value and used it to rebuild their customer experience from the ground up, and the numbers confirm they were right. The most successful retailers won't be those with the most extensive catalogues. They'll be the ones who understand their customers and what they actually came for." 2026 RTIH Innovation Awards The awards are now open for entries and celebrate global retail technology innovation in a fast moving omnichannel world. Its winners will be revealed at the 2026 RTIH Innovation Awards Ceremony, taking place at The HAC in Central London on Wednesday, 4th November. Its 2025 hall of fame entrants were revealed during a sold out event which took place at The HAC on 16th October and consisted of a drinks reception, three course meal, and awards ceremony presided over by award winning comedian, actress and writer Tiff Stevenson. In his welcome speech, Scott Thompson, Founder and Editor, RTIH, said: "This is the awards' fifth year as a physical event. We started off with just 30 people at the South Place Hotel not far from here, then moved to London Bridge Hotel, then The Barbican, and last year RIBA's HQ in the West End." "But I'm conscious of the fact that, to quote the legend that is Taylor Swift, You're only as hot as your last hit, baby. So, this year we've moved to our biggest venue yet, and also pulled in our largest number of entries to date and broken attendance records." He added: "This year's submissions have without doubt been our best yet. To quote one of the judges: The examples of innovative developments across both traditional and digital retail spaces were truly remarkable." Congratulations to its winners, and a big thank you to its sponsors, judging panel, the legend that is Tiff Stevenson, and all those who attended its 2025 gathering.
