Requirements
  • Enrolled in a PhD or MSc program in CS, EE, applied mathematics, or a related field.
  • Record of relevant publications, internship experiences, or relevant projects.
  • Expertise in audio signal analysis, processing, and feature extraction.
  • Experience cleaning, manipulating, and analyzing audio data.
  • Proven knowledge of machine learning, including architecture design and training/testing methodologies.
  • Proven coding expertise with Python and experience with relevant machine learning tools (e.g. PyTorch, Slurm, Streamlit, etc.).
Responsibilities
  • Investigate and apply novel algorithms that combine audio signal processing and machine learning techniques in areas such as music generation, music editing, music attribution analysis, source separation, audio restoration, audio effects manipulation, representation learning formusic andaudio effects processing, and AI-assisted post-production for music, film, or game audio.
  • Implement and optimize these algorithms by applying your research, coding, and problem-solving skills.
  • Be supported in your efforts by having access tostate-of-the-artresources at Sony and a unique and extensive catalog of music data.
  • Based in Tokyo, you will alsohave the opportunity tocollaborate with other Sony research teams and Sony Business Groups such as Sony Music, Sony Pictures, and Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Sony FX5 brings Open Gate and internal raw. Posted on Jul 23, 2026 by Adam Duckworth Triple base ISO and dual gain now while an upcoming firmware update will bring 240fps in 4K Sony has unveiled the eagerly anticipated FX5, a compact full-frame addition to its Cinema Line that introduces several major firsts for the FX series, including Open Gate recording and internal X-OCN Raw capture. Designed for filmmakers, commercial productions and high-end content creators, the FX5 combines a newly developed full-frame stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor with Sony's latest BIONZ XR2 image processor and dedicated AI processing unit. The result is a camera capable of recording 5K at up to 60fps, 4K at up to 120fps and Full HD at up to 240fps, all while delivering more than 15 stops of dynamic range in S-Log3. For the first time in an FX-series camera, users can shoot full 3:2 Open Gate footage using the entire sensor, making it ideal for projects destined for multiple aspect ratios and social media platforms. Sony has also added internal recording in its 16-bit scene-linear X-OCN Raw format, with new X-OCN C1 and C2 options reducing file sizes while maintaining high image quality and streamlining post-production. The FX5 also introduces Sony's new Dual Gain Shooting mode alongside three native ISO settings of 800, 4000 and 12,800, allowing filmmakers to maximise dynamic range while keeping noise under control across a wide range of lighting conditions. AI-powered autofocus uses human pose estimation to recognise eyes, heads and bodies, while Auto Tracing White Balance combines visible light, infrared sensing and deep-learning algorithms to deliver more consistent colour in challenging environments. Despite its powerful specification, the FX5 remains compact and lightweight, making it well suited to handheld work, gimbals and confined shooting locations. Five-axis in-body image stabilisation is joined by Dynamic Active Mode for smoother handheld footage, while a redesigned cooling system allows extended recording without overheating. The camera also features a brighter 3.5-inch multi-angle touchscreen, CineAlta-inspired BIG6 interface, wired LAN, dual USB-C ports, timecode support and compatibility with Sony's new high-capacity NP-SA100 battery. Two optional accessories launch alongside the camera. A detachable 7.07-million-dot OLED viewfinder offers HDR monitoring with up to 0.9x magnification, while a new XLR Handle Unit adds four-channel, 96kHz, 32-bit float audio recording for documentary, broadcast and professional production work. Sony has also confirmed a future firmware update will add 240fps recording in X-OCN, Open Gate XAVC S-I recording, an improved vertical shooting interface and frame-grab functionality. Sony raises $1B in debut U.S.-registered bond offering

Sony Group Corporation has raised $1 billion in its inaugural US-registered bond offering. The issuance comprises $500 million of 4.657% senior notes due 2031 and $500 million of 5.089% senior notes due 2036. The transaction launched on 22 June 2026, priced on 23 June, and is expected to close on 30 June. Cleary Gottlieb served as legal counsel to the Tokyo-headquartered conglomerate. LiveU and Sony expand collaboration with direct file workflow integration for IP-based broadcasting

LiveU has announced an expanded collaboration with Sony, introducing the Sony RXS Connection License that enables direct file transfer from compatible Sony cameras through the LiveU EcoSystem. The integration allows supported LiveU field units, starting with the LU300S, to transmit files from Sony cameras whilst preserving existing broadcast workflows. The solution complements the dedicated LiveU TX1 transmission unit announced in September 2025 for Sony's professional camera range. Both solutions, demonstrated at NAB Show in Las Vegas, leverage LiveU's Reliable Transport protocol to deliver resilient file transfers from field locations. The integration enables news teams to conduct live broadcasts and transfer high-resolution files from the same device, reducing manual file handling and streamlining workflows. Sony and TCL establish BRAVIA Inc joint venture for TVs and audio to launch April 2027

Sony and TCL have issued an update on their joint venture, confirming legally binding agreements and revealing details seemingly designed to reassure Sony fans. The new entity, named BRAVIA Inc, will launch in April 2027 and be headquartered in Sony's Tokyo office, not China. Kazuo Kii from Sony Corporation will serve as CEO, whilst the board will split four additional members evenly between Sony and TCL employees. Despite TCL holding 51% ownership, the venture appears heavily Sony-oriented in structure and operations. BRAVIA Inc will completely succeed Sony's current AV home entertainment business, handling everything from product development to customer service for TVs, audio systems, projectors and displays. All products will continue carrying Sony and Bravia branding, with intellectual property protections in place for both companies.
