Requirements
  • A minimum of a high school diploma is required.
  • Applicants without the CASAC credential must have a strong interest in addiction treatment and be willing to receive training and become credentialed as a CASAC.
  • Applicants with the CASAC credential must have at least one year of experience working with individuals with substance use disorders.
  • Applicants with the CASAC credential must have training and experience in trauma-informed care, co-occurring disorders, and relevant privacy and confidentiality laws.
  • Applicants must have knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, trauma-informed care, co-occurring disorders, and client confidentiality and privacy laws.
  • Applicants must be calm in difficult situations and able to offer steady support.
  • Applicants must be well-organized and dependable.
Responsibilities
  • Develop a treatment plan with the Program Director or Clinical Supervisor that reflects the specialized track issues and patients’ physical, medical, cognitive, psychosocial, and diagnostic needs.
  • Use a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach to collaborate with patients and internal and external treatment team members in supporting treatment and recovery.
  • Provide clinical consultation to referral resources, mentors, family members, and others supporting patients’ recovery.
  • Engage patients in decision-making and help them understand assessment benefits and access the appropriate level of care.
  • Collect and review referral information, consult as needed, and coordinate patient interviews and services.
  • Make referrals to appropriate programs and agencies based on assessments and patients’ treatment needs.
  • Assist patients with scheduling admissions or first appointments at referred programs or facilities.
  • Monitor patients’ access to and involvement with treatment and other providers to address barriers to treatment and recovery.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Human Services or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience and credentials may determine whether the counselor co-facilitates work with other staff members.
