San José Mineta International Airport celebrates National Aviation Week as the first California airport to host Joby Aviation's mobile simulator.

San José Mineta International Airport celebrates National Aviation Week as the first California airport to host Joby Aviation's mobile simulator. Renowned SJC Aviation Week Sticker Search also kicks off on Aug. 19, with custom Ernie + Friends sticker giveaways at retail concessions, Rental Car Center August 18, 2026 San José, Calif. - San José Mineta International Airport, the official Airport of Silicon Valley and community hub for innovation and technology, will celebrate another milestone when it becomes the first Airport in California to host a mobile flight simulator with Joby Aviation from Aug. 19-21 to celebrate National Aviation Week. Joby Aviation is developing all-electric aircraft designed to take off and land vertically, carrying passengers quickly, quietly and with zero operating emissions. It's part of a growing industry known as Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), which is reimagining how people move through cities and regions by taking to the skies for short trips that would otherwise mean sitting in traffic. For three days only, Joby's eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) air taxi mobile simulator will be stationed outside SJC Terminal B, available to community members by reservation only - whether or not they're flying SJC. Aviation enthusiasts wishing to experience Joby's full-motion flight simulator can sign up for a 30-minute session here.* What it is: Participants will step into the cockpit of Joby's aircraft flight simulator and experience what the future of flight feels like; no pilot's license required. When: Aug. 19-21, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. daily (last group starts at 3:30 p.m.) Where: 1701 Airport Boulevard San José, CA 95110, near the "XO" 12 foot public art piece at Terminal B. Participants with a confirmed reservation should park in Lot 5 (validation will not be provided; parking is at the visitor's expense). With the Bay Area home to several eVTOL pioneers, SJC continues to advance efforts to integrate this emerging technology into its future airport development plans. As part of these efforts, SJC's Planning team is currently hard at work conducting a campus-wide AAM and vertiport feasibility analysis. In addition to the flight simulator, SJC's annual National Aviation Week sticker search is back by popular demand - and bigger than ever - inside Terminals A, B and the Rental Car Center. Due to SJC's simple and efficient layout, participants can navigate the terminals with ease, exploring SJC's shops and restaurants while collecting unique stickers. Each design features the Airport's own Ernie + Friends characters combined with elements from participating concession locations. Follow the clues at flysanjose.com/aviation, collect a sticker at each location and add it to your collection. It's a fun way to explore SJC and pick up the perfect souvenir. There are 12 designs in all and 24,000 stickers up for grabs. "San José has a long history of embracing innovation, and that spirit extends to our Airport. This activation with Joby Aviation is an opportunity to explore how emerging technology can help shape the future of aviation while showcasing the future of flight to the community," said San José City Manager Jennifer Maguire. "National Aviation Week is a fitting time to highlight the partnerships and forward-thinking approach that keep San José at the forefront of what's next." "San José is proud to be home to an Airport that reflects the innovative spirit of Silicon Valley," said San José Mayor Matt Mahan. "Allowing the community the chance to experience emerging flight technologies at SJC is another example of how San José is leading the way in the future of aviation and community engagement." "National Aviation Week is the perfect opportunity to invite our community to see SJC in a new way - not just as a place to catch a flight, but as a place where people can come together, learn and experience the excitement and future of flight with Joby Aviation," said Mookie Patel, director of aviation at San José Mineta International Airport. "We're proud to open our doors to our neighbors and give them a firsthand look at the people, ideas and partnerships that help keep SJC moving forward. We're also delighted to bring back our sticker search in the terminals - our passengers have spoken, and it's even bigger this year." "This simulator offers a preview of what's to come: quiet, zero-operating-emission flights that turn a commute that takes an hour into a trip that takes minutes," said Eric Allison, Chief Product Officer at Joby Aviation. "SJC has been a great partner in bringing that experience to San José, and we're glad to be part of National Aviation Week." Stay tuned to SJC's social channels for more National Aviation Week fun. *Additional details: * Participants with a confirmed reservation should park in Lot 5 (validation will not be provided; parking is at the visitor's expense). * No cost to participants for the simulator experience. * Minimum age: 12 * One person can fly the simulator at any given time. Joby is buying a stealth-technology firm for $500m, and rebuilding its defence arm around it.

Joby is buying a stealth-technology firm for $500m, and rebuilding its defence arm around it. August 12, 2026 - 9:22 am Joby Aviation has agreed to buy Resonant Sciences, a Dayton, Ohio radar and low-observability specialist, for about $500m, in the largest acquisition the electric air taxi company has made and the clearest signal yet of where it expects its near-term revenue to come from. The structure is $450m in cash and roughly $50m in Joby common stock priced at signing, with some Resonant employee-shareholders taking equity so they retain an interest in the combined business. There is no earnout, which is worth noting because headline figures on deals this size often bundle one. The seller is Cerberus Capital Management, which invested in Resonant in 2023. Closing is expected in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory review. Founded in 2015, it employs about 250 people across Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, Michigan, Colorado, and North Carolina, and designs radio-frequency and mission systems: advanced apertures, electromagnetic measurement, electronic countermeasures, instrumentation radars, and the frequency-selective radome and antenna work that sits underneath low-observability aircraft design. More than 90% of its staff hold security clearances and the company is facility-clearance accredited, selling directly to the US government and to prime contractors. It also makes money, which Joby does not. Resonant turned over more than $100m in the trailing twelve months, up around 40% year on year, at adjusted EBITDA margins in the high teens. First-half bookings more than tripled against the same period in 2025 and its backlog more than doubled. Joby, by comparison, booked $63m of revenue in the first half of this year and burned $318m in operating cash, according to Motley Fool's reading of its filings. "Resonant has built an exceptional business that combines advanced technology, vertically integrated production capabilities and deep customer trust," said JoeBen Bevirt, Joby's founder and chief executive. He framed the logic as additive rather than defensive: "This gives us the ability to do projects that Resonant couldn't do alone and Joby couldn't do alone." After closing, Resonant keeps its name and becomes Joby's dedicated defence unit under co-founder and chief executive J. Micah North, absorbing Joby's existing military work on turbine-electric and hydrogen-electric aircraft and autonomy. The combined Ohio footprint will run to roughly a million square feet, most of it near Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, home of Air Force Materiel Command and the service's life-cycle management centre. Proximity to the customer is doing some of the work here. Joby already has defence business. It has flown aircraft to Edwards and MacDill under the Air Force's Agility Prime programme, on a contract extended in 2023 to a total value of $131m, and last year flew an autonomous hybrid VTOL demonstrator built with L3Harris. What it does not yet have is FAA type certification for the aircraft that the company was founded to build, though it remains the furthest along of anyone in the process, and it has been flying between JFK and Manhattan in seven minutes on demonstration runs while it waits. Investors did not treat the announcement as good news. Joby shares fell on Tuesday, though by how much depends on when you look: roughly 4.4% to $8.42 on one intraday reading, about 6% on another, and 6.5% in premarket. Liquidity drops from around $2.3bn to an estimated $1.85bn once the cash goes out. The wider air-taxi sector has been slipping its timelines for years while certification regimes catch up. Buying a cleared, profitable defence contractor is one way to stop waiting. Joby now expects to close in about ten months. It is the second time in a year that Joby has bought its way into a revenue line rather than waiting for one. Last August it agreed to acquire Blade Air Mobility's passenger helicopter business for up to $125m, giving it routes and customers before it had an aircraft certified to fly them. It has also been flying a demonstration network in Dubai, where it is targeting commercial launch this year. The pattern is consistent: acquire the operating business now, certify the aircraft later.

Joby Aviation valued at $8.6B despite electric air taxi yet to carry passengers

Joby Aviation stock trades at a price-to-sales ratio of 73.5, though its revenue comes from Blade, a helicopter passenger network it acquired, not its electric air taxi business. The company generated $39 million in Q2 2026 revenue, primarily from Blade's services like New York to Hamptons flights, with seats sold rising over 50% year over year. The electric air taxi has yet to carry passengers. Joby targets first passenger flights before end of 2026, starting with pilot-only flights in Dallas-Fort Worth in September. The company holds $2.3 billion in cash and short-term investments against operating losses of roughly $900 million over the past year. Five aircraft are currently flying, with 12 more in production and at least two targeted for delivery in H2 2026.

Joby Aviation builds out defense business with $500M acquisition.

Joby Aviation builds out defense business with $500M acquisition. 9:06 AM PDT · August 11, 2026 Joby Aviation reached an agreement to acquire Resonant Sciences for $500 million in cash and stock, according to a regulatory filing posted Tuesday. This is the electric air taxi developer's latest move to push deeper into the defense sector. Ohio-based Resonant Sciences, which makes radio frequency and sensor systems, will become a dedicated defense business under Joby. Resonant Sciences' co-founder and CEO J. Micah North will lead this new division, which will absorb Joby's defense projects, including the development of a turbine-electric and hydrogen-electric aircraft, and autonomy technology stack. The new defense division will allow the rest of Joby Aviation to focus on certifying, manufacturing, and launching its electric air taxi, the company said. California-based Joby is best known as a company trying to develop and launch a network of electric urban air taxis that can shuttle people and goods over short distances. The company has also pursued defense, an effort that became more public over the past two years. Last year, Joby signed an agreement with defense contractor L3Harris Technologies to "explore opportunities" to develop a new aircraft class - specifically, a gas-turbine hybrid vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft that can fly autonomously - for defense applications. The gas-turbine hybrid VTOL will be based on Joby's current S4 aircraft platform, the company said at the time. Joby has focused on developing the S4 with an all-electric powertrain, but in 2024 it demonstrated under a government contract a hydrogen-electric hybrid version that flew 521 miles - more than two times farther than its battery-electric prototype. Joby's acquisition of Resonant Sciences gives it a money-making business. Resonant has reported $100 million in trailing 12-month revenue, and access to classified programs run by the U.S. government. Resonant's radio frequency and sensing tech also complements Joby's own electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOLs). Joby has tapped this revenue-generation-through-acquisition strategy before. Developing, certifying, and mass-producing eVTOLs is an expensive and years-long process, the kind of frontier tech that excites shareholders until they start wondering when the money is going to come in. Why historian Jill Lepore thinks Big Tech CEOs read sci-fi all wrong | Equity Podcast 0 seconds of 27 minutes, 20 seconds Volume 0% Joby, which went public in 2021 through a merger with a blank-check company, has assuaged investors by finding near-term sources of revenue. Last year, Joby acquired Blade Air Mobility's helicopter rideshare business for about $125 million. The acquisition gave Joby instant access to a network of 12 terminals in key markets like New York City as well as terminal bases at John F. Kennedy International Airport, Newark Liberty Airport, on both east and west sides of Manhattan, and Wall Street. It also delivered much-needed revenue for Joby. The company reported $38.6 million in revenue in the second quarter, $36.2 million of which came from Blade. When you purchase through links in our articles, we may earn a small commission.
