Requirements
  • High school graduation or GED.
  • At least five years of experience in a specified building construction, mechanical, or utilities trade, including at least three years of journey-level experience.
  • Experience with tools and equipment common to the specified trades.
  • A Class C operator's driver's license and a current three-year driving record are required.
  • The successful candidate must complete strength and agility testing before employment.
  • A current Texas-issued Master or Journeyman Electrical or Plumbing license, or HVAC Class A or B license, qualifies for the additional monthly stipend.
  • More than five years of journey-level kitchen equipment cold-side refrigeration experience is preferred.
  • Electrical experience installing conduit, wiring, controls, and repairing multiple electrical systems in commercial and residential settings is preferred.
  • A State of Texas master- or journey-level HVAC technician license is preferred.
  • Commercial and residential renovation experience and maintenance and repair experience in apartments or residence halls are preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Perform primary refrigeration repair and apply advanced knowledge of kitchen equipment and heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems.
  • Install, repair, and maintain refrigeration and heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning equipment, including cold-side refrigeration storage units, ice machines, beverage equipment, and heating and cooling systems.
  • Perform multi-craft work in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, kitchen equipment, and painting as needed.
  • Analyze computer-generated work orders and prioritize work.
  • Use troubleshooting techniques and diagnostics to identify system and equipment malfunctions.
  • Coordinate repairs with other trades as needed.
  • Inspect and evaluate work to ensure it meets acceptable industry standards.
  • Communicate with supervisors, staff, and residents about needed repairs and work-order status.
  • Follow written and oral instructions from the supervisor.
  • Complete paperwork accurately and on time, sign off completed work orders, provide work-order status updates, document preventive maintenance, and provide accurate parts information.
  • Charge out materials, account for inventory used, return unused inventory to the system, and perform inventory as required.
  • Carry a university cell phone, participate in the on-call rotation, respond to emergencies 24/7, and facilitate completion of emergency repairs.
  • Work weekends and overtime as determined by the supervisor.
  • Drive a university vehicle to work sites and transport equipment and supplies for maintenance and repair work.
  • Participate in job and shop safety activities and report unsafe acts or safety concerns.
  • Promote and train employees on the lockout/tagout program.
  • Pursue ongoing training and workshops, including monthly safety training, to improve personal and staff knowledge and work skills.
