Requirements
  • Experience working in fast-paced, highly dynamic environments with high ambiguity.
  • At least 5 years of experience in supply chain, procurement, or operations within hardware, deep technology, aerospace, or similarly complex sectors.
  • Proven experience designing and operating global supply chains.
  • Strong hands-on supplier negotiation and vendor management experience with business-critical suppliers.
  • Experience building and running procurement processes, policies, and approval frameworks.
  • Familiarity with international shipping, customs, duties, and trade compliance, with the ability to manage external export-control specialists.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills.
Responsibilities
  • Design and actively run a global supply chain supporting the delivery of highly complex quantum hardware.
  • Own critical supplier relationships and negotiations, particularly for long-lead, high-risk, or strategically important components.
  • Build and operate procurement processes day to day, including approvals, vendor onboarding, and exception handling, while laying the groundwork for future scale and potentially managing inventory.
  • Identify and manage supply chain risk hands-on, directly resolving issues that could affect engineering progress or delivery milestones.
  • Select, implement, and operate fit-for-purpose tools and systems.
  • Oversee international logistics, including shipment coordination, documentation, and compliance with customs, duties, and tariffs.
  • Work with engineering, finance, and legal to translate technical, commercial, and regulatory constraints into executable supply decisions.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in highly regulated or government-adjacent environments.
  • Previous exposure to software supply chain management, its risk management, and open-source licenses.
  • Direct experience with export control or International Traffic in Arms Regulations-style constraints.
  • Prior experience selecting and implementing procurement or supply chain systems.

Universal Quantum builds practical, large-scale quantum computers using trapped ion technology. Its hardware and software enable clients such as research institutions, technology firms, and government agencies to access advanced computation through partnerships, technology licensing, and direct system sales. The system operates by precisely controlling trapped ions with electronic quantum gates and modular silicon components to scale up performance. It differentiates itself with a focus on real-world, scalable quantum solutions and an interdisciplinary team, aiming to become a leading hub for quantum research and licensing-enabled collaborations.

  • Universal Quantum joined Tech Nation Future Fifty 2026, signaling investor interest.
  • German and UK government-backed projects keep funding and customer access open.

What critics are saying

  • Quantinuum, IonQ, and Oxford Ionics are scaling faster in 2026.
  • A 100-qubit DLR deliverable creates execution risk before Germany's 2026 deadline.
  • Missing manufacturing-grade vacuum and error-correction milestones would kill commercialization.

What makes Universal Quantum unique

  • Modular trapped-ion chips target utility-scale systems, not laboratory demonstrations.
  • DLR's €67 million contract validates Universal Quantum's multi-chip architecture.
  • Nature Communications reported 99.9% qubit transfer across microchips.
