  • The candidate must be an undergraduate student who has completed at least three semesters.
  • The candidate must have experience using SolidWorks.
  • The candidate must be comfortable working with minor oversight.
  • The candidate must have a B+ or higher GPA.
  • The candidate must be able to regularly travel to and work at the NETL facility located at the J.J. Pickle Research Campus in North Austin.
  • The candidate must be comfortable working with heavy machinery and power tools.
  • The candidate must be able to lift heavy equipment, possibly up to 40 pounds at times.
  • The candidate must be comfortable working in a controlled facility as a radiation worker.
Responsibilities
  • Design mechanical components to support installation of miniature fission detectors.
  • Select and work with vendors and contractors.
  • Build, test, and install mechanical and electrical hardware.
  • Machine simple components as needed.
  • Collaborate with faculty, senior researchers, and other students to ensure successful completion of the project.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working with metals such as steel and aluminum.
  • Experience selecting materials and designing metallic components.
  • Experience with design for manufacturing.
