Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One to three years of healthcare or clerical experience.
  • Ability to coordinate and work as a team member with various disciplines and departments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively on a wide range of issues with internal and external customers and initiate follow-up actions.
  • Ability to prioritize, work independently, and perform tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts, including dollar totals, monetary conversions, discounts, interest, fractions, decimals, percentages, area, and volume.
  • Ability to solve technical and practical problems with limited communication, support, information, and access.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Basic word-processing, computer input, and retrieval skills for order entry.
  • Ability to function within Microsoft Office programs.
  • Strong phone etiquette, customer-service, and public-relations skills.
  • Basic knowledge of office equipment, including fax machines, copiers, and scanners.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to the individual needs of patients and families based on the age and special characteristics of the patient group served.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain a positive work environment while performing customer-service, clerical, and reception duties that support unit workflow.
  • Assemble and maintain patient records, filing data and obtaining reports and data necessary for departmental operations.
  • Greet and assist visitors in a courteous manner.
  • Utilize clinical and patient information systems to support the delivery of patient care.
  • Coordinate department communications and accept and screen telephone calls appropriately.
  • Assist in orienting new administrative support staff.
  • Maintain adequate supplies of current forms, unit supplies, and equipment, including troubleshooting and maintaining office equipment.
  • Assist with scheduling through the Shift Wizard system and maintain timecards and payroll through the Kronos system.
  • Demonstrate professional business etiquette.
  • Coordinate department communications and relay patient and healthcare-member requests to other unit members.
  • Monitor, respond to, and follow through on patient call-bell and patient or family requests.
  • Collaborate with other departments to facilitate admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Assist the unit registered nurse coordinator in updating Enterprise Visibility for appropriate patient bed placements.
  • Enter patient charges in Soarian Financials and coordinate with billing for patient billing and charges.
  • Perform environmental control, revenue reconciliation, inventory management, data-entry processing, and issue troubleshooting.
Desired Qualifications
  • Associate's degree.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
