About the job

Requirements
  • A degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Two to four years of hands-on IT support or field technician experience.
  • Solid working knowledge of Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems.
  • Practical understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and Wi-Fi configuration.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software faults independently.
  • Comfort working in field environments and travelling regularly to sites outside Nairobi.
Responsibilities
  • Set up, configure, and maintain end-user devices, including laptops, tablets, phones, printers, and site hardware, across offices, warehouses, kitchens, and field sites.
  • Maintain the asset register for devices, ensuring they are logged, tagged, assigned, reconciled, and physically verified each quarter.
  • Carry out hardware lifecycle steps under the Manager’s process, including raising procurement requests, preparing and deploying devices, arranging repairs, and preparing retirements for approval.
  • Ensure each new joiner is equipped and ready to work on their first day.
  • Perform routine administration on on-premise servers and core systems under the Manager’s direction, including health checks, updates, backup checks, and user account changes.
  • Install, configure, and maintain network equipment, including routers, switches, and access points, to established standards and site designs, working with vendors and contractors on physical installations.
  • Diagnose connectivity issues across sites, travelling to investigate when needed or directing site staff or vendors remotely when appropriate.
  • Monitor network performance across sites, flag degradation before outages, and recommend actions.
  • Maintain documentation for each site covering topology, equipment, credential handling, and known issues.
  • Work with kitchen, warehouse, and field teams to understand their connectivity needs and ensure connectivity supports their work.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for IT support across the organisation, logging requests, resolving issues within remit, and keeping requesters updated through closure.
  • Work the support queue according to the Manager’s priorities and response times, ensuring requests receive attention and urgent items are handled first.
  • Escalate unresolved issues to the Manager using the escalation matrix and provide context on what happened, what was tried, and the likely cause.
  • Maintain records of requests, resolutions, and recurring issues; identify patterns and propose root-cause fixes.
  • Build and maintain self-service guides and setup checklists, and run short sessions to help colleagues handle simple issues themselves.
  • Deliver assigned workstreams on IT projects and rollouts, including site readiness, device builds, pilot logistics, user training, rollout checklists, and post-rollout snagging.
  • Plan and manage assigned workstreams, track progress and blockers, and update the Manager and affected teams proactively.
  • Coordinate vendors day to day for hardware and site work by logging jobs, tracking orders, verifying deliveries, and following up on delays.
  • Gather requirements from field users and report them through the Manager to inform system development.
  • Use AI tools and light scripting to build small automations, quick fixes, and internal prototypes; obtain the Manager’s review before anything is used day to day.
  • Apply the Manager’s security controls across supported devices and sites, including patching, endpoint protection, access provisioning and deprovisioning, and safe credential handling.
  • Process access requests accurately and promptly, and ensure leavers lose access on their last day based on People team exit notifications.
  • Immediately report suspected phishing, lost or stolen devices, and possible security compromises.
  • Support the Manager with cybersecurity and business continuity work, including new controls, staff awareness, audit remediation, and continuity testing, by implementing them at site level and reporting results.
  • Learn the technology estate, keep the asset register current, and ensure requests are logged, prioritised, and closed with open, blocked, and recurring work visible.
  • Meet response times, keep patching and endpoint protection current, remove leavers’ access by their last day, and help maintain reliable connectivity at field sites and kitchens.
  • Deliver a share of at least one rollout within the first six months and prevent recurring issues by documenting them and proposing root-cause fixes.
  • Maintain site documentation that another person can use and provide operational support that reduces avoidable escalations to the Manager.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience administering Google Workspace and/or Microsoft 365.
  • Familiarity with an IT ticketing system such as Jira or equivalent.
  • Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles and safe IT practices.
  • Certification such as CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified Fundamentals, or equivalent.
  • Experience using AI tools for automation, scripting, or building quick prototypes, such as Copilot, ChatGPT, or Claude.
