Requirements
  • An associate's or bachelor's degree, or a military equivalent program, in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics, Electronic Technology, or a related field.
  • At least six months of experience repairing and maintaining medical equipment; an approved equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
  • Mechanical and electrical knowledge.
  • Knowledge of electronic theory, technology, and test equipment.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and medical terminology as they relate to clinical equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of computers, servers, networks, and Windows operating systems.
  • A valid driver's license and willingness to drive to various network locations.
  • Ability to stand for up to eight hours per day, walk for up to four hours per day, sit for extended periods, use hand tools, lift and carry items weighing up to 60 pounds, occasionally pull or push objects weighing more than 300 pounds, and climb ladders up to 20 feet.
Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled maintenance, electrical safety testing, and functional testing on medical equipment, including specialized equipment such as dialysis equipment, according to departmental and manufacturer protocols and specifications.
  • Repair defective medical and dialysis equipment to meet or exceed manufacturer specifications throughout the network.
  • Oversee manufacturer or third-party vendors when required and support other equipment and devices handled by the department.
  • Provide overall instrumentation support in assigned clinical areas.
  • Diagnose and correct system and equipment malfunctions.
  • Maintain accurate records of all work performed and complete entries and paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Participate in staff in-service educational programs.
  • Participate in pre-purchase equipment evaluation programs as required.
  • Provide technical consultation to other department personnel.
  • Evaluate equipment failures to identify trends, design problems, and usage problems.
  • Install clinical equipment and other technical devices.
  • Ensure applicable clinical equipment and product recall actions are completed as required.
