Requirements
  • A Ph.D. in sociology is required; ABD candidates may be considered but must complete the Ph.D. by the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated outstanding research potential, excellence in teaching, and professional service.
  • Prior teaching experience in a university setting is required.
  • Ability to complete tasks and work cooperatively with others.
  • Strong self-discipline and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to interact with students from a range of backgrounds.
Responsibilities
  • Teach the equivalent of 18 course credits per academic year, including sociology research methods, statistics, and/or specialty areas.
  • Develop a research program at A&M-San Antonio that produces tangible outputs such as articles, books, and grants.
  • Provide service at the sociology program, department, college, university, community, and professional levels.
  • Integrate research into teaching, contribute to Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences, and mentor students pursuing undergraduate research opportunities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Use quantitative methods in research.
  • Demonstrate an active and promising research agenda with potential to produce high-quality scholarly publications.
  • Have a strong interdisciplinary orientation, a record of student-centered teaching and learning, and a commitment to community engagement.
  • Experience teaching and mentoring students at Hispanic-Serving Institutions or working with majority-Latinx student populations.
  • Connect sociological knowledge and research skills to workforce preparation, career readiness, and students’ professional goals.
