Position Summary:
Penn State Campus Recreation is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Lead Tennis Instructor to oversee our junior tennis programs, including camps and clinics. This part-time position is ideal for a dynamic leader who is passionate about youth development, tennis instruction, and program management. The Lead Instructor will also serve as acting Program Director in the absence of the Director.

Responsibilities:

• Plan, organize, and help lead all junior tennis programs, including camps, clinics, and seasonal sessions.
• Serve as the primary contact for junior program participants, parents, and staff, handling inquiries and feedback professionally.
• Supervise, mentor, and train assistant instructors and camp counselors to ensure program quality and adherence to safety protocols.
• Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans and progression pathways for junior players.
• Monitor and evaluate junior player development, maintain records and provide individualized feedback.
• Coordinate and lead staff meetings and training sessions related to junior programming.
• Oversee daily camp operations, including participant check-in/out, equipment setup, scheduling, and safety procedures.
• Act as Program Director when the Director is unavailable, making key decisions regarding program logistics, staffing, and emergency protocols.
• Manage administrative tasks such as attendance, program evaluations, and communication with the Tennis Director.
• Assist in promoting and recruiting junior programs and camps.
• Ensure compliance with university, departmental, and industry safety standards.
• Job performance may include all the duties and responsibilities of positions in lower tier levels.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience in tennis instruction, particularly with junior players.
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a camp, clinic, or similar setting preferred.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours.
• CPR/First Aid certification.
