His practice spans regulatory compliance, government engagement, licensing strategy, export controls, and international nuclear legal frameworks. Emma Moran recognised among New Zealand's Elite Women for 2026.

Emma Moran recognised among New Zealand's Elite Women for 2026. Emma Moran, Partner in DLA Piper's Litigation & Regulatory practice, has been named in NZ Lawyer's Elite Women list for 2026. The annual list recognises women who have influenced the legal profession and demonstrated a sustained commitment to the law. The recognition reflects the breadth of Emma's contribution across client work, law reform, and pro bono practice. Her work spans complex disputes, regulatory investigations, and strategic risk, with a particular focus on organisations operating in heavily regulated sectors including financial services, life sciences, and insurance. Leading the firm's Litigation & Regulatory and Public Law practices and Life Sciences sector in New Zealand, Emma has more than 18 years' experience, advising organisations facing significant disputes, investigations, enforcement risk, and regulatory change. She has extensive advocacy experience across all levels of the New Zealand courts, specialist tribunals, and commercial arbitration. Laura Scampion, DLA Piper's Country Managing Partner in New Zealand, said Emma's recognition reflected her influence and leadership, adding: "Emma demonstrates the kind of leadership we value at DLA Piper. She combines technical excellence in her legal practice with a willingness to contribute to bigger questions affecting New Zealand's legal system and profession. Her work in public law, law reform, and pro bono practice, together with the support she provides to colleagues coming through the profession, gives her influence well beyond her own practice. It is wonderful to see that recognised by NZ Lawyer". Her recent pro bono work has focused on human rights and access to justice, alongside her wider involvement in law reform and emerging regulatory issues. For her Life Sciences practice, she focuses on developments affecting medicines, medical devices, health tech, and AI. Commenting on the recognition, Emma Moran said, "Much of my work involves helping clients navigate situations where the legal answer is only one part of the problem. In heavily regulated sectors, disputes, and regulatory issues often bring governance, reputational, and commercial considerations with them. Its role is to help clients cut through that complexity and find a clear, practical way forward. "I'm very grateful to be recognised by NZ Lawyer. The best work is collaborative, and I'm fortunate to work with outstanding clients and colleagues on issues that really matter." Earlier in 2026, Emma was also named a finalist for the Inclusive Leader of the Year Award at the Diversity Awards NZ, recognising her commitment to inclusive advocacy and professional development, alongside her significant pro bono contribution to human rights and access to justice.

DLA Piper accused of malpractice in soccer deals. October 15, 2026, 12:45 pm CDT A multimillionaire sports investor has filed a lawsuit against DLA Piper alleging that the law firm engaged in malpractice in a series of European soccer club deals. (Photo from Shutterstock) A multimillionaire sports investor has filed a lawsuit against DLA Piper alleging that the law firm engaged in malpractice in a series of European soccer club deals. Former DLA Piper client John Textor alleges in the suit filed in Florida state court that the firm represented itself as Textor's personal legal counsel despite negotiating contract terms that exposed Textor to losses that he valued in the tens of millions. Williams & Connolly partner John Villa, representing DLA Piper, described Textor as a "very experienced and sophisticated businessman" who knew the risks inherent to the deals. "The well-publicized problems he and his companies have encountered had nothing to do with the quality of the lawyering, which was excellent in all respects," Villa said, according to a story by Law.com.
