Requirements
  • A few years of secondary school; completion of secondary school is an asset.
  • Up to one year of experience in a related field or customer service.
  • Experience handling money is an asset.
  • A satisfactory driver's record, a valid driver's license, and a reliable vehicle are required.
  • Must provide an original satisfactory criminal record check and, where applicable, undergo a Salvation Army child abuse registry check; must also pass appropriate screening and background checks.
  • Must understand and support The Salvation Army's mission and objectives and comply with occupational health and safety laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Must be able to lift 9 to 12 kg (20 to 25 lb).
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality of donor, volunteer, and organizational information.
  • Must be flexible and able to work under pressure with daily schedules and changing priorities.
  • Must have strong customer service skills and be comfortable interacting with people of all ages and abilities.
Responsibilities
  • Attend a day of orientation and training about The Salvation Army and the Christmas kettle campaign.
  • Help transport and set up kettles at designated locations before attendants arrive at the start of the campaign.
  • Secure all donations collected at the end of each shift.
  • Report potential problems or supply shortages to the appropriate person daily, as needed.
  • Guide attendants and remind them how to care for the kettles and perform their duties, as needed.
  • Supervise, support, and reassign attendants throughout the campaign as needed.
  • Participate in recruiting new attendants.
  • Visit kettle locations during attendant changeovers and periodically.
  • Complete timesheets and mileage reports accurately and on time each week.
  • Cover an unattended kettle for the full shift or until a replacement arrives, protecting donations.
  • Answer potential donors' questions about Salvation Army programs and services.
  • Collect donations and other money and ensure they are protected.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
