Requirements
  • An Associate's degree in Zoo Animal Technology or a Bachelor's degree in Zoology, Wildlife Ecology, or Animal Management is required.
  • At least two years of professional experience within a zoological field is preferred.
  • Relevant teaching experience within a community college setting is preferred.
  • The ability to deliver interactive customer service, develop collaborative relationships, communicate effectively, and use computer applications, including Microsoft Office, is required.
  • The applicant must be willing to work a flexible schedule at multiple sites.
  • The applicant must demonstrate the ability to work with students, faculty, and staff in a diverse, multicultural, collaborative environment.
  • A criminal background check will be conducted.
Responsibilities
  • Design courses, deliver instruction, evaluate student learning, and incorporate college-required technology.
  • Maintain subject matter expertise and engage in ongoing professional development.
  • Maintain effective communication within the College and the department or program.
  • Train students in cleaning, sanitation, animal restraint and handling, diet preparation and feeding, animal behavior and observation, operant conditioning, safe zoo practices, and guest interactions.
  • Direct, supervise, and evaluate students' zookeeping skills and competencies within the SF Teaching Zoo.
  • Plan, organize, and deliver zoological instruction in didactic, laboratory, and classroom settings.
  • Support college and departmental missions through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, and service.
  • Collaborate with the department chair, faculty, and peers to evaluate, revise, and develop curriculum.
  • Provide students with frequent, timely assessment and clear feedback regarding academic performance.
  • Document student progress and maintain accurate records, including attendance, grading, and achievement of student learning outcomes.
  • Honor student confidentiality and privacy in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and college rules.
  • Proctor exams and participate in departmental meetings, college task forces, and committees as necessary.
  • Maintain office hours proportionate to the instructional assignment.
  • Provide courteous, informed, accessible, and professional service engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
