About the Job

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience, focused on backend technologies.
  • Significant experience with Laravel, PHP 7 or later, MySQL, and testing pipelines in a deployed web application used by paying customers; Laravel experience is non-negotiable.
  • Hands-on experience using agentic coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot, or similar in a real production codebase.
  • Write testable, maintainable, and intuitive code while avoiding unnecessary abstraction and prioritizing customer and business value.
  • Think through non-obvious usage scenarios and explore ripple effects in complex systems.
  • Demonstrate empathy toward customers and teammates.
  • Communicate exceptionally well in writing, particularly in a remote-first, distributed environment using Slack and Notion.
  • Be self-motivated and able to make decisions amid uncertainty without requiring a support system to maintain momentum.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new features, maintain existing features, and build product workflows that help customers grow.
  • Contribute to product-shaping discussions, ship new core platform features from inception, and iterate based on customer feedback.
  • Build user experiences that are simple for customers to use and for engineers to understand and maintain.
  • Partner with product, sales, customer success, and other engineers to develop and ship features that solve the right problems.
  • Work within the monolithic codebase on a Kubernetes-powered infrastructure-as-code stack.
  • Implement and use observability tooling to track and debug after deployment.
  • Find and remedy performance and resource issues and feature bugs that most affect business operations and customer experience.
  • Refactor core platform code to improve understandability, maintainability, and testability.
  • Review AI-generated code and understand what is being shipped to customers.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with queue- or job-centric backends.
  • Experience building production systems where data ingestion from third-party APIs is critical to the business.

About the Company

Hospitable

SaaS platform automating short-term rental operations

Hospitable provides a subscription SaaS platform that helps short-term and vacation rental hosts automate and manage their properties. It unifies guest communications, uses AI to answer most inquiries, and syncs calendars with OTAs to prevent double bookings. Hosts can build direct booking websites with payments, guest screening, and damage protection, while the platform also coordinates cleaning/maintenance tasks and integrates with smart-home devices and a dynamic pricing tool. The goal is to reduce hosting administration and boost revenue for both individual owners and professional managers, originating from Smartbnb in 2016 and rebranded to Hospitable in 2021.
