Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Must receive optician licensure within one year of hire.
  • One year of relevant experience is required.
  • Must successfully complete a background check as a final candidate.
  • A drug screen or physical may be required during the post-offer process.
Responsibilities
  • Work with optometrists and interns to support patient care and teaching missions.
  • Assist with ordering ophthalmic materials and recommend frame and lens options based on patient needs.
  • Measure patients accurately and enter orders in Compulink.
  • Communicate orders to ophthalmic laboratories and track and verify ophthalmic material orders.
  • Dispense, adjust, and repair spectacles.
  • Order and dispense contact lenses.
  • Explain eye examination procedures, ophthalmic materials, and fees to patients and answer questions using prescription and medical record information.
  • Communicate with patients and caregivers regarding follow-up and continued care.
  • Communicate with other medical providers regarding consultative and co-managed care.
  • Triage phone calls and independently determine appropriate appointment scheduling services.
  • Arrange and verify insurance coverage and interpret insurance as it relates to eyewear coverage.
  • Assist with patient arrival, process routing forms, ensure accurate optometric procedures and diagnostic codes, post and explain patient fees, collect payments, and schedule follow-up appointments.
  • Handle confidential patient information in accordance with HIPAA.
  • Perform Release of Information duties securely and confidentially.
  • Prepare and review medical records and prescriptions for completeness and accuracy.
  • Work with supervisors and college personnel to meet business and regulatory requirements and maintain consistent quality of care.
  • Perform other optometric and administrative duties as needed.
  • Perform duties in satellite or main campus clinic services as assigned.
