  • At least 5 years of experience as a Coating Process Engineer in a manufacturing environment, including at least 2 years in a multinational company.
  • Experience working with and/or supervising project teams.
  • Knowledge of physical vapor deposition coating, spray coating, and related thin-film deposition processes.
  • Familiarity with thin-film characterization methods and equipment, including ellipsometers, spectrometers, optical microscopes, scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, and contact-angle measurement.
  • Familiarity with organic-material chemical analysis techniques such as Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry.
  • Familiarity with cover-lens reliability testing, including abrasion, solar radiation, and high-temperature/high-humidity tests.
  • Fundamental understanding of anti-reflective and easy-to-clean coating processes, with experience in new solvent and solute qualification.
  • Experience in cost reduction, yield improvement, capacity expansion, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience applying structured problem-solving methodologies, such as Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control; Kepner-Tregoe; and design of experiments, to lead root-cause analysis and process improvement.
  • Experience in coating-process modeling.
  • Experience in data analysis, including big-data analysis, statistical analysis, measurement system analysis, and statistical process control.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain close communication with Division Engineering and plant partners to support timely issue resolution, as well as the start-up, ramp-up, and capability establishment of new equipment and processes.
  • Lead the development of fundamental knowledge related to anti-reflective and easy-to-clean coating processes, ensuring stable and consistent production performance.
  • Develop new technologies and process improvements that support market leadership and the company’s low-cost, high-quality strategy.
  • Build partnerships with Controls and Equipment teams to support technology development and deepen process understanding.
  • Partner with plant engineering teams to implement process, equipment, and control changes effectively.
  • Provide advanced engineering support for plant troubleshooting and problem-solving activities.
  • Build effective relationships and maintain strong interactions with internal and external customers and stakeholders.
  • Monitor and analyze daily process-capability performance data, including first article inspection, in-process quality control, statistical process control, and process capability indices; troubleshoot, including through material analysis, when performance falls below expectations.
  • Lead experiments and performance-improvement projects to achieve targets for product quality, yield, uptime, cost, and capacity.
  • Serve as the plant technical leader for coating processes; work with equipment engineers to optimize process-equipment interactions and collaborate with other process areas to identify and address process interactions.
  • Train operators, shift leaders, managers, and other engineers.
  • Provide weekend and shift coverage as required.
  • Report issues using professional data analysis and clear, logical communication.
  • Lead medium-scope projects, including project planning, resource development, AR initiation, spending control, production scale-up, and project transfer.
  • Prepare technical briefs and engineering documents; establish engineering and operational work instructions; develop training materials; provide technical direction to partner engineers; and coach operators.
  • Collect customer feedback, develop corrective action plans, promptly resolve customer complaints, and provide updates to the management team with appropriate documentation.

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior involvement in early-stage innovation programs.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong ownership and commitment to achieving plant goals.
  • A strong sense of urgency and creativity in resolving project issues and adapting plans to meet objectives.
  • Flexibility to adapt to a changing environment and act as a change agent to support others through change.
  • Customer-oriented approach and ability to meet customer needs through high-quality results.
