Requirements
  • An Associate's Degree of Nursing is required.
  • Graduation from a college or university accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education is required.
  • At least one year of experience as a registered nurse working in an inpatient intrapartum Labor and Delivery setting within the last two years is required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is required in addition to Basic Life Support.
  • Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring certification from the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses is required.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification is required.
  • Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics or Emergencies in Clinical Obstetrics certification is required; new employees must complete Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics within 180 days of starting.
  • STABLE certification is required.
  • A current, full, active, and unrestricted Registered Nurse license is required.
  • The contract worker must be a United States citizen.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain productivity comparable to individuals performing similar services.
  • Participate in peer review and performance improvement activities.
  • Practice aseptic techniques and comply with infection control guidelines, including proper handling, storage, and disposal of infectious waste and use of universal precautions.
  • Follow safety procedures.
  • Perform efficiently in emergency patient situations by following established protocols, informing appropriate personnel, documenting events, anticipating potential problems, and intervening appropriately.
  • Notify a supervisor, director, or other designated person about problems that cannot be managed independently.
  • Apply awareness of legal issues to patient care and manage situations in a reduced-risk manner.
  • Participate in the Family Advocacy Program, including appropriate medical examination, documentation, and reporting.
  • Respect and protect patient and significant-other rights identified by the medical treatment facility.
  • Maintain accountability for professional practice.
  • Participate in continuing education for professional growth.
  • Attend and comply with required annual medical treatment facility training, including disaster training, infection control, sexual harassment, blood-borne pathogens, fire and safety, chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosives training, and MHS GENESIS training.
  • Participate in the medical treatment facility Performance Improvement Program, including reviewing and evaluating care, identifying improvement opportunities, and recommending corrective action.
  • Participate in in-service training for clinic staff and provide training or clinical direction to supporting government employees, such as hospital corpsmen and students.
  • Attend and participate in meetings as directed.
  • Document patient care in a timely, accurate, and concise manner.
  • Operate automated systems including ADS, MHS GENESIS, and the Clinical Information System; participate in clinical staff Performance Improvement and Risk Management functions; maintain the Department of Defense email account; and respond to email and voicemail communications.
  • Delegate clinical tasks and duties appropriately while coordinating clinical direction, healthcare team members, patient care, and clinic activities.
  • Maintain treatment documentation in accordance with clinic directives and prepare required records and reports.

  • Employees are encouraged to participate in clinical simulations and drills facilitated by the unit nurse educator in collaboration with the simulation center.
