About the Job

Requirements

  • At least 12 years in pharmaceutical or biotechnology quality, with progression into senior quality assurance leadership.
  • Experience advancing a molecule from preclinical development through an Investigational New Drug submission and into Phase 2 or beyond in a resource-constrained environment with substantial outsourced execution.
  • Deep expertise in either Good Manufacturing Practice or Good Clinical Practice, with working competence in the other.
  • Hands-on experience configuring or materially building a quality management system such as ZenQMS, Veeva Vault QMS, Qualio, MasterControl, or TrackWise.
  • Grounding in data integrity and computer system validation fundamentals, including ALCOA+, 21 CFR Part 11, GAMP 5 categorization, and audit trail review.
  • Participation in a sponsor-side FDA GMP or BIMO inspection.
  • Awareness of regulatory approaches to AI and machine learning in regulated environments, and ability to reason about future expectations.
  • Familiarity with applying AI and machine learning to discovery, biomarker selection, dose selection, or trial design.
  • Ability to serve as the quality voice with machine learning engineers and data scientists without needing to be a machine learning expert.
  • Ability to build fit-for-stage, risk-based processes with sound judgment about avoiding over-engineering.
  • Hands-on willingness to write standard operating procedures, conduct audits, and establish systems.
  • Ability to communicate quality and data integrity posture clearly to non-quality audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the evolution of the quality management system beyond initial setup into an active, effective system.
  • Mature corrective and preventive action, deviation, change control, training, and document management processes to support organizational growth.
  • Write, revise, and implement standard operating procedures, policies, and quality workflows as required by the business.
  • Own qualification, audits, and quality agreements across contract development and manufacturing organizations, contract research organizations, and investigator sites.
  • Provide hands-on oversight of product release, batch record review, stability programs, and annual product reviews through Phase 2 in partnership with chemistry, manufacturing, and controls.
  • Lead trial master file quality, clinical audit planning, and sponsor oversight activities in partnership with clinical operations and data management.
  • Prepare the organization for pre-IND, IND, and BIMO milestones and lead sponsor-side responses to findings.
  • Define expectations for documentation, traceability, review, and change control from raw biological data through clinical insight.
  • Partner with Compute and Data Science on model documentation, change control, and validation approaches for clinical applications of AI and machine-learning outputs informing patient selection, biomarker selection, and trial design.
  • Develop phase-appropriate approaches to model drift and evolving algorithms that withstand regulatory scrutiny.
  • Contribute quality and data integrity context to partnership and diligence discussions as needed.
  • Partner with research, clinical, regulatory, chemistry, manufacturing, and controls, and data science teams to integrate quality into workflows and development approaches.

About the Company

Insitro

ML-driven predictive drug discovery and development

Insitro integrates machine learning with biology to speed up drug discovery and development. It builds predictive models from large-scale data to forecast which targets, molecules, or paths are most likely to succeed and prioritizes experiments accordingly. Unlike firms that rely on either biology or ML alone, it combines data generation and modeling in an integrated workflow with scientists and engineers collaborating on drug candidates. Its goal is to shorten development timelines and reduce costly failures by delivering data-driven insights and co-developing medicines with pharma partners.
