Requirements
  • Experience managing higher-education academic programmes, preferably in the United Kingdom.
  • Experience teaching, developing curricula, and managing and enhancing quality in a United Kingdom higher-education environment.
  • Experience leading or supporting engineering programme accreditation or reaccreditation with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Institution of Engineering and Technology, or comparable Engineering Council-licensed professional engineering institutions under AHEP4, including curriculum and learning-outcome mapping, preparation of accreditation evidence, accreditation visits, and subsequent action plans.
  • Demonstrable resilience and excellent management, learning, and teaching abilities.
  • Evidence of a positive impact at discipline or programme level beyond the candidate's own teaching.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex and conceptual ideas to a range of groups.
  • Ability to work independently and self-manage while working at pace and scale.
  • Understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion in academic content and relationships with staff and students.
  • Ability to work at different premises, including any campus, as required.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal office hours when required.
  • Willingness to engage in promotion, marketing, and public outreach activities for the subject or programme area.
  • A Master's degree in a relevant Engineering discipline.
  • Senior Fellowship of Advance HE, or willingness to work toward it within 12 months.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment checks, including a criminal records check, two references, identity and Right to Work verification, and education confirmation.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee the academic and operational delivery of Engineering programmes in line with Office for Students B conditions of registration and relevant accreditation requirements.
  • Ensure a consistent and high-quality academic experience for students.
  • Monitor, review, and drive enhancements to teaching, learning, and assessment across Engineering programmes.
  • Ensure assessment processes, including marking, moderation, and external review, are delivered appropriately and to required standards.
  • Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including university partners, external examiners, professional bodies, staff, and students, to ensure academic quality and professional relevance.
  • Recruit, develop, and manage academic staff, including Programme Leaders and Lecturers.
  • Manage Programme Leaders, Senior Lecturers, Lecturers, and Associate Lecturers.
  • Provide suitable academic and operational induction for newly appointed academic staff.
  • Provide communication, guidance, and support to programme academic staff.
  • Ensure line-managed staff have clear objectives and personal development plans and receive annual performance appraisals.
  • Identify staffing needs and allocate staff to timetables to ensure balanced workloads and appropriate programme resourcing.
  • Engage in recruitment and marketing activities related to the programme.
  • Ensure Engineering programmes comply with the Academic Regulations for Taught Programmes.
  • Keep programme webpages, handbooks, specifications, and virtual learning environment content accurate and up to date, and brief faculty staff appropriately.
  • Ensure programme and module learning outcomes and assessments are constructively aligned and mapped to AHEP4 learning outcomes where applicable.
  • Ensure programme and module changes follow college and university partner modification and validation procedures and relevant professional, statutory, and regulatory body accreditation requirements.
  • Oversee content development, learning and teaching, assessment, marking, moderation, academic staff, and related processes to meet academic quality standards.
  • Work with registry, quality, and partnership staff to manage programmes appropriately and ensure examination boards run smoothly.
  • Oversee examination-board preparation meetings, university examination boards, committee meetings, quality and partnership meetings, and accreditation review meetings.
  • Chair programme committees, staff-student liaison committees, and other quality and standards meetings as required.
  • Implement college and partner-university policies, plans, and procedures, including learning, teaching and assessment plans, programme action plans, and accreditation action plans.
  • Oversee the timely and accurate production of agendas, minutes, and other programme papers.
  • Facilitate student registration, including regular start points and late registration, with enrolment and registration staff.
  • Oversee student induction with relevant colleagues, support services, and agencies.
  • Ensure student-representative selection, training, support, and issue resolution processes operate effectively.
  • Manage unresolved student queries and ensure students are appropriately supported throughout their programmes.
  • Oversee student attendance and engagement monitoring and related participation action plans.
  • Ensure the requirements of students with Student Support Plans are met.
  • Contribute to staff-student liaison committees and report key issues to relevant colleagues.
  • Ensure Engineering programmes and student experience meet Office for Students B conditions and relevant professional, statutory, and regulatory body accreditation requirements.
  • Prepare annual monitoring reports, programme action and enhancement plans, and other required periodic reports.
  • Lead periodic programme review and reapproval in line with college and university partner regulations, policies, and professional accreditation cycles.
  • Monitor external examiner and professional accreditation body comments and ensure appropriate actions and responses are completed.
  • Assure student experience, satisfaction, achievement, continuation, completion, and progress.
  • Ensure the suitability and availability of learning and teaching resources, including specialist engineering laboratories, workshops, software, and library resources.
  • Ensure the Engineering curriculum remains current and relevant and aligns with Engineering Council AHEP requirements and relevant Institution of Mechanical Engineers and Institution of Engineering and Technology expectations.
  • Enable relevant research and scholarship for the postholder and staff to update knowledge and support high-quality teaching.
  • Apply knowledge from scholarship to teaching and engage in external activities, including knowledge exchange and knowledge transfer.
