- Familiarity with zero-trust and zero-knowledge security architectures, encryption standards, and threat-modeling methodologies.
- Design, build, test, deploy, and operate secure, performant applications across the Secrets Manager suite, owning services end to end.
- Set engineering standards through pull request reviews and maintain conventions for testing, error handling, API design, and secure coding.
- Maintain automated test suites, integration harnesses, and continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines.
- Maintain architecture specifications, API contracts, and open-source developer documentation.
- Maintain clean service boundaries and design resilient APIs so Secrets Manager can evolve independently of the core platform.
- Own the medium-term technical direction and document the reasoning behind significant technical decisions.
- Pair with engineers on difficult problems, provide substantive design feedback, and mentor engineers.
- Improve performance, reliability, accessibility, and maintainability; identify technical debt and sequence pragmatic refactoring alongside delivery.
- Own the operational health, performance, and reliability telemetry of services in production.
- Partner with Product, Design, Security, and other engineering teams to design and validate solutions before implementation.
- Experience with AI-assisted development, preferably Claude Code.
- Familiarity with C++, Java, and PHP.
- Familiarity with WebAssembly instruction format.
- Experience or interest in open-source software and developer advocacy.

Bitwarden announces redesigned Password Manager interface to simplify everyday use, now available in beta. By Glenn / October 1, 2026 Bitwarden is launching a beta of its redesigned Password Manager interface for the Chrome browser extension and desktop apps.
Bitwarden has introduced Privileged Controls, a new privileged access management feature now available in private preview for select customers. The solution addresses deployment friction by offering setup in minutes, compared to traditional PAM systems that can take months to implement. Built on Bitwarden Password Manager, Privileged Controls enables security and IT teams to manage access to privileged and business-critical credentials through credential leasing, advanced access rules, automated password rotation, and detailed audit logs. The announcement comes as AI-enhanced attacks increasingly target credentials at scale. Bitwarden research revealed that whilst 84% of surveyed customers rated securing privileged account access as extremely or very important, 55% reported having no PAM solution in place. Among those without PAM, 40% cited cost as a barrier and 20% cited implementation resource requirements. Key features include temporary credential access requests, automated password rotation for Microsoft Entra ID and custom scripts for Windows and Linux servers, and compliance-ready audit logs that integrate with SIEM solutions.

Bitwarden has appointed Mary Writz as chief product officer. Writz brings over 20 years of cybersecurity and product leadership experience from Red Canary, Zscaler, ForgeRock, Hewlett Packard, and IBM.
