Marsh McLennan vs Aon: faster growth justifies the pricier insurance broker

Marsh McLennan and Aon, the two big insurance brokers, earn fees for placing risk with underwriters rather than carrying it. Yet their recent results differ sharply, according to an Insider Monkey comparison. Marsh McLennan closed at $177.01 on October 13 and has returned 2% over six months. Aon closed at $274.71 and has returned -15.6%. Both trailed the S&P 500 ETF's 14.0% return. Marsh grew quarterly revenue 6.20%, against 2.20% at Aon, whose earnings fell 4.80%. Marsh's operating margin is 26.32%, against 23.46% at Aon. Aon trades at 13.48 times next year's earnings, against 14.97 for Marsh. The article argues the discount reflects Aon's weaker growth. Softening premiums remain a shared risk, since commissions are charged on premiums.

Jayavani Sarkar joins Aon as Head of Digital Marketing for GCC.

Jayavani Sarkar joins Aon as Head of Digital Marketing for GCC. 12 Oct 2026 Jayavani Sarkar has been appointed Head of Digital Marketing for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region at Aon, a global professional services firm known for risk, retirement and health solutions. The move, announced by industry outlet Exchange4Media, marks a significant reinforcement of Aon's digital capabilities in a market that is rapidly embracing technology-enabled insurance and advisory services. Sarkar brings over a decade of experience in crafting multi-channel campaigns for financial services, and her new role is expected to accelerate Aon's digital transformation agenda across the GCC. The GCC economies - particularly Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Oman - have witnessed a surge in digital adoption across consumer and B2B segments. According to recent reports, internet penetration exceeds 95 % and mobile commerce is expanding at double-digit rates. For insurers and risk managers, this translates into richer data streams, more personalized product offerings, and heightened expectations for seamless online experiences. By placing a seasoned digital strategist at the helm, Aon signals its intent to harness these trends, moving beyond traditional broker-centric models toward integrated, data-driven client journeys. Sarkar's background includes senior stints at leading fintech and insurance firms where she oversaw programmatic advertising, content ecosystems, and AI-powered analytics. Her expertise in aligning creative storytelling with performance metrics aligns with Aon's broader goal of delivering measurable ROI for its corporate clients. In practice, this could mean deploying predictive modeling to identify cross-sell opportunities, leveraging social listening tools to gauge market sentiment, and implementing automated lead nurturing workflows that shorten the sales cycle. For businesses operating in the GCC, Sarkar's appointment underscores the growing importance of partnering with advisors who can translate digital insights into actionable risk solutions. Companies should expect Aon to offer more granular audience segmentation, hyper-personalized communication, and real-time performance dashboards. These capabilities can help firms not only comply with evolving regulatory frameworks but also differentiate their value propositions in a crowded marketplace. From a marketing perspective, the shift highlights several practical takeaways. First, talent acquisition - especially leaders who blend creative acumen with data fluency - remains a competitive advantage. Second, integrating digital marketing with core service delivery can unlock new revenue streams; for insurers, this might involve bundling risk assessments with digital risk-mitigation tools. Third, investing in marketing technology stacks - such as CDPs, marketing automation platforms, and advanced analytics - will be essential to sustain the pace of innovation that Aon now aims to champion. The broader implication for the region's digital ecosystem is a reinforcement of the talent pipeline. Universities and professional training institutes in the GCC are likely to see increased demand for curricula that blend marketing, data science, and financial services knowledge. Companies that nurture such interdisciplinary skill sets will be better positioned to collaborate with firms like Aon, which are actively seeking partners capable of co-creating digital solutions. In summary, Jayavani Sarkar's elevation to Head of Digital Marketing - GCC at Aon reflects a strategic bet on digital excellence in a high-growth market. For businesses, the message is clear: digital marketing is no longer a peripheral function but a core driver of risk management, client acquisition, and long-term profitability. Organizations that align their marketing investments with data-centric strategies will be best placed to reap the benefits of Aon's enhanced digital focus across the Gulf region.
