Requirements
  • A high school degree or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience supervising or cooking in a professional kitchen is required.
  • An associate degree from an accredited institution or equivalent applicable work experience is required.
  • The employee must obtain ServSafe certification within six months of employment.
  • The employee must maintain a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, faithfully uphold the organization's Statement of Faith, and demonstrate a Christ-centered and compassionate attitude.
  • The employee must have strong leadership skills, extensive cooking knowledge, and hands-on culinary experience.
  • The employee must be able to instruct culinary arts through hands-on demonstration.
  • The employee must know critical food safety and handling practices, including National Restaurant Association ServSafe practices and applicable state, county, and city regulations.
  • The employee must be able to prepare tasteful meals with attractive presentations while following standard recipes and procedures.
  • The employee must have good eye-hand motor skills, manual dexterity, precision, care, and safety awareness.
  • The employee must communicate clearly through written and verbal communication, promote teamwork, and apply problem-solving skills.
  • The employee must be able to work with diverse groups of people while treating everyone with dignity and respect.
  • The employee must be computer literate, including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the ability to learn new computer programs.
  • The employee must hold a valid Colorado driver's license.
  • The employee must frequently stand, lift up to 50 pounds, reach, bend, and carry; occasionally climb; and perform these activities on an ongoing and rotational basis.
  • The employee must be able to use industrial slicers, mixers, food preparation equipment, ovens, steamers, stockpots, grills, fryers, hood suppression systems, chef's knives, computers, copiers, and point-of-sale systems.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate training throughout kitchen functions and food service work initiatives.
  • Assist the Food Services team with preparing and providing meals and quality hospitality services for the organization, its programs, clients, and the Colorado Springs community.
  • Assist in training Culinary Arts students through work initiatives.
  • Encourage and promote the growth and development of students, residents, and shelter guests while facilitating teamwork, time management, and problem resolution.
  • Support Culinary Arts students and contribute to their interpersonal growth in a Christian environment.
  • Prepare meals through culinary arts training for guests, clients, and residents.
  • Train and oversee volunteers at various levels.
  • Communicate effectively with unpaid staff members.
  • Ensure the proper use, cleaning, and storage of equipment.
  • Assist with food ordering and donation intake, and ensure proper food handling, storage, and documentation.
  • Observe established health and safety standards and procedures, including those of the United States Department of Agriculture, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and ServSafe.
  • Inspect kitchen food deliveries upon arrival for freshness and quality.
  • Ensure all food service documentation is correctly entered and stored.
  • Prepare and submit formal and informal reports or presentations to the Executive Chef, management team, selected external audiences, or other groups as requested.
  • Support the training and recognition of volunteers and engage them in meaningful work that leverages volunteers as a resource.
  • Attend required or expected meetings and regularly review organizational emails.
Desired Qualifications
  • ServSafe certification is preferred.
  • Affiliation with the American Culinary Federation or National Restaurant Association is a plus.
  • Previous experience working with homeless, addicted, or mentally ill populations is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of 12-step programs, recovery, or mental illness is preferred.
