Requirements
  • Graduate of a Medical Imaging program.
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
  • Must have vascular certification.
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal directions in English.
  • Must be able to differentiate various shades of gray as depicted on a black and white television monitor or photograph.
  • Must stand and walk for six to seven hours a day.
  • Must lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds of weight.
  • Must be able to push an ultrasound machine for portable exams.
  • Must be able to prioritize work tasks and multitask.
Responsibilities
  • Plan and perform imaging procedures to produce sonographic medical images for the diagnosis or treatment of patients according to department standards, professional literature, protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain the required knowledge and technical competencies for the position in accordance with organizational, accreditation, and licensing-body requirements where applicable.
  • Review each physician’s request completely for information about the procedure to be performed and refer questions to the sonologist or referring physician before conducting the study.
  • Produce images of optimal quality.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all Protected Health Information.
  • Assess patients’ needs related to comfort, hygiene, and range of motion and provide support accordingly.
  • Educate patients about sonographic procedures by explaining the procedure and answering questions.
  • Promote a team approach to Radiology services by positively interacting with technical, support, nursing, resident, and medical staff.
  • Engage in problem solving, crisis management, and systems implementation throughout the hospital to support efficient, high-quality, cost-effective patient care.
  • Perform as a clinical instructor in accordance with the standards, protocols, policies, and procedures of the sonography education program.
  • Evaluate and document student clinical performance fairly, consistently, and in a timely manner according to educational-program guidelines.
  • Maintain professional development in sonographic imaging and techniques.
  • Participate in in-house training and development offerings and apply the resulting skills and knowledge to job performance.
  • Display imaging techniques, patient care, and guest-relations behaviors in accordance with the ARDMS Code of Ethics, applicable administrative policies and procedures, behavior standards, Radiology Department policies and procedures, state and federal regulations, and The Joint Commission guidelines.
  • Report equipment failures immediately upon identification.
  • Perform high-level disinfection of ultrasound equipment according to department policy.
