Requirements
  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • At least 3 years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Knowledge of design standards and codes.
  • Knowledge, application, and specification of piping materials.
  • Ability to develop piping material and material procurement specifications.
  • Knowledge of good design practices for sizing piping systems.
  • Ability to size compressible fluid piping systems.
  • Ability to perform flexibility and stress analysis of moderately complex piping systems.
  • Ability to specify criteria for and select piping specialty items.
  • Ability to design moderately complex process and utility piping systems.
  • Knowledge of manual valve sizing, use, and application.
  • Knowledge of piping supports and restraints.
  • Ability to identify, apply, and specify safety valves and devices that maintain the mechanical integrity of piping systems.
  • Ability to identify, apply, and specify steam traps and liquid drainers.
  • Ability to estimate piping-related construction quantities from conceptual documents.
  • Knowledge of other disciplines' deliverable development to coordinate design efforts.
  • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and computer-aided design drafting standards.
  • Knowledge of discipline-specific methods, practices, and techniques required to engineer, design, and construct process and manufacturing projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
  • Professional Engineer registration is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Perform all aspects of complete designs for small and large mechanical engineering assignments under general supervision.
  • Use department design and drafting standards.
  • Review project scope, specifications, and design criteria when assigned to a project task team.
  • Provide on-site assistance during startup.
  • Perform stress analysis, construction specifications, material procurement specifications, calculations, and piping estimates.
  • Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine efficient approaches to engineering tasks.
  • Produce estimate-level preliminary designs and material take-offs appropriate to the project estimate.
  • Produce detailed design calculations and sketches for project construction materials.
  • Assist the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems by providing sketches and details for engineering drawings.
  • Consult with design leaders from other disciplines to coordinate information required for project completion.
  • Review and check vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for mechanical input.
  • Produce designs that use construction materials efficiently and emphasize ease of construction and client requirements.
  • Check calculations prepared by other engineers for accuracy and conformance with codes, specifications, design criteria, and engineering practice.
  • Advise senior engineering staff about identified design or scope changes.
  • Assist engineers in assembling scopes, drawings, and specifications into packages for procurement inquiries and subcontract pricing.
  • Develop construction specifications.
  • Review fabrication drawings and construction submittals for conformance with engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Perform fieldwork to gather field data, check tie-ins, and provide construction support.
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced drafting and engineering personnel.
  • Apply advanced engineering techniques and analysis to complex designs.
  • Develop small work-sharing packages for interoffice execution support.
