Requirements
  • Medical Assistants must be high school graduates or equivalent.
  • Certified Medical Assistants must be high school graduates or equivalent and graduates of an accredited Medical Assistant Training program.
  • Licensed Practical Nurses must complete an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program.
  • Licensed Practical Nurses must hold or be eligible for state licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required within three months of appointment for all classifications.
  • Certified Medical Assistants must obtain certification within six months of appointment from the American Association of Medical Assistants, American Registry of Medical Assistants, National Center for Competency Testing, or National Healthcare Association.
Responsibilities
  • Manage patient flow and perform patient rooming workflows.
  • Demonstrate and apply infection control, sterile, and aseptic techniques when setting up or assisting with procedures.
  • Enter and process diagnostic and office procedure orders and assist with scheduling procedures.
  • Assist medical providers with processing diagnostic results.
  • Administer medications by all routes excluding intravenous infusion, recognize and report effects and side effects, and instruct patients appropriately.
  • Collect and record accurate telephone information and relay it to the medical provider or nurse in a timely manner.
  • Clean, prepare, and autoclave equipment and instruments for sterilization according to infection control policies and procedures.
  • Check inventory and order supplies as needed.
  • Provide patient education under the direction of a medical provider or nurse.
  • Perform delegated physician and nursing acts commensurate with education, training, competency, and experience.
  • Schedule referrals and outpatient diagnostic procedures, including patient preparation information, and coordinate prior authorizations.
  • Collect laboratory samples.
  • Schedule, reschedule, cancel, and coordinate appointments using basic computer systems as needed.
  • Assist in emergency situations and cross-train or staff other clinics as needed.
  • Participate in site process-improvement teams.
  • Perform other required duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working in a healthcare setting.
  • For Medical Assistants, certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants, American Registry of Medical Assistants, National Center for Competency Testing, or National Healthcare Association.
  • For Licensed Practical Nurses, Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
