Requirements

  • The applicant must successfully pass a thorough background investigation.
  • The applicant must provide credible testimony in a court of law.
  • The applicant must have an acceptable driving record and be eligible to operate a University of Texas vehicle.
  • The applicant must complete and review detailed forms accurately and promptly.
  • The applicant must possess a valid Texas driver's license and be eligible to drive a university-owned or leased vehicle.
  • The applicant must successfully complete a probationary training period.
  • The applicant must have a Class C operator's driver's license and provide a current three-year driving record.
  • The applicant must be able to work weekends, nights, evening shifts, holidays, and severe-weather assignments as required.
Responsibilities
  • Investigate crimes against persons.
  • Seize, test, and submit drug evidence.
  • Prepare detailed reports and complete documentation, including arrest affidavits and POED forms.
  • Interview patients regarding mental health needs for a POED.
  • Conduct regular patrols of the emergency room and surrounding Medical District properties.
  • Investigate property crimes.
  • Collaborate with outside agencies.
  • Testify in court proceedings related to investigations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Five years of experience as a full-time officer at a full-service law enforcement agency.
  • Formal training and successful practical application of mental health response and de-escalation techniques.
  • Experience working in a mental health unit at a law enforcement agency.
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
