About the job

Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience in engineering, product or technical program management, data analysis, or product development, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience managing cross-functional or cross-team projects.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the end-to-end program operating model for a portfolio of strategic OEM device readiness initiatives, from portfolio intake and scenario definition through OEM self-assessment, Microsoft Readiness Assessment, SelfHost entrance, release milestones, and post-launch learning.
  • Build and maintain integrated plans connecting OEM and silicon schedules, device availability, hardware and software manifests, BIOS, firmware, drivers, images, lab capacity, assessment criteria, evidence requirements, remediation work, and decision gates.
  • Create trusted partnerships with HDE and HDV program managers, OEM counterparts, silicon partners, engineering and quality teams, internal marketing and sales, and senior leaders; clarify roles, service expectations, handoffs, decision rights, and escalation paths across organizational boundaries.
  • Drive portfolio prioritization using customer personas, product and sales importance, reviewer influence, new silicon or architecture risk, technical novelty, historical escapes, and available capacity; make tradeoffs visible and recommend where impartial Microsoft evidence matters most.
  • Manage requests and weigh resource capacity, schedule implications, and return on investment, ensuring clear outcomes, owners, capacity plans, or approved tradeoffs.
  • Establish and run scalable governance, including weekly portfolio reviews, milestone and readiness reviews, integrated risk and dependency tracking, gate-exception records, and decision logs; ensure every material risk has an accountable owner, next action, date, closure evidence, and escalation path.
  • Facilitate readiness and entrance decisions using defined criteria, evidence confidence, hard-stop conditions, and explicit exceptions; record decision authority, rationale, residual risk, and evidence that would change the posture, and prevent schedule pressure or incomplete data from becoming a silent gate bypass.
  • Translate assessment findings, telemetry, quality signals, and partner status into concise, decision-ready recommendations for technical and executive audiences; separate measured facts from targets and estimates, surface unknowns and data-quality limitations, and communicate next steps.
  • Drive timely issue routing and follow-through across OEM, silicon, Windows, tooling, and operational owners; make ownership gaps, aging dependencies, unresolved tradeoffs, and decisions requiring leadership action visible.
  • Define and improve portfolio metrics such as on-time verdicts, critical-criteria coverage, evidence completeness, receipt-to-verdict time, partner response aging, owner and disposition timeliness, capacity returned through automation, and covered post-launch escapes; partner with data owners to preserve definitions, provenance, and confidence.
  • Scale the system through reusable intake contracts, templates, playbooks, service-level expectations, retrospectives, and AI-assisted workflows; partner with lab and engineering leads on test automation and OEM self-assessment while retaining deterministic validation, accountable human judgment, Microsoft audit authority, and OEM confidentiality.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree and at least 8 years of experience in engineering, product or technical program management, product development, data analysis, or a related field, or equivalent experience, including at least 6 years leading cross-functional or cross-team initiatives.
  • At least 2 years of experience managing cross-functional or cross-team projects with interdependent technical, operational, partner, and business deliverables.
  • Experience gathering business and technical requirements and translating them into program plans, milestones, readiness criteria, decision gates, metrics, and accountable actions.
  • Demonstrated experience using data to assess program health, identify and mitigate risks, manage dependencies, resolve ambiguity, and influence technical and business decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical and program information clearly to engineers, partner organizations, business stakeholders, and senior leaders, and to drive alignment without direct authority.
  • Experience with hardware-software system readiness, Windows or another operating-system platform, device development, drivers, firmware, servicing, reliability, or product-quality programs.
  • Experience managing external engineering relationships with OEMs, silicon vendors, suppliers, or other partners where trust, confidentiality, shared dependencies, and influence without authority are essential.
  • Experience designing or operating readiness assessments, launch gates, validation programs, quality reviews, risk-acceptance mechanisms, or post-launch learning loops.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, Power BI, Kusto or KQL, SQL, Azure Data Explorer, or comparable planning and analytics platforms, with a solid understanding of metric definitions and data provenance.
  • A track record of establishing governance and reusable mechanisms that improve delivery consistency, decision quality, organizational accountability, and measurable business or customer outcomes across a highly matrixed environment.
  • Experience applying automation or artificial intelligence to program workflows, analysis, reporting, or risk identification while preserving human accountability and sound judgment.
  • PMP, PgMP, Lean, Six Sigma, Agile, or comparable program-management training or demonstrated practical mastery of those disciplines.
  • Experience reading or writing code, queries, technical specifications, or automation logic sufficiently to collaborate effectively with software engineering, data, and tooling teams.

Meta, Barclays, Block cut thousands of jobs as firms shift spending to AI

Companies are cutting jobs and shifting money from staff to artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, as the cost of meeting booming AI demand reshapes budgets. Meta will lay off about 8,000 workers, or 10% of its workforce, and leave about 6,000 jobs unfilled. It expects 2026 expenses to reach as much as $169 billion, driven by infrastructure and AI talent. Block is cutting more than 4,000 of its 10,000-plus employees; its shares are up 19% this year. Kroger will lay off 3,000 corporate staff over three years, and Barclays plans to cut 5,000 jobs, about 5% of its workforce. Snap is eliminating about 16% of staff, or 1,000 jobs. Coinbase is cutting about 14%, and Microsoft is offering buyouts to about 8,750 US employees.

Microsoft could be 2027's surprise quantum winner as Azure hits $100B in annualised revenue

Microsoft could be a surprise winner among quantum computing stocks in 2027, as pure-play rivals falter. IonQ shares are down 29% and D-Wave's 54% this year. Microsoft built a topological superconductor to produce more stable qubits, and pairs it with its Majorana chip architecture. The second version of the chip, it says, improves qubit stability 1,000x. The goal is 1 million qubits on a single chip. Researchers already use quantum processing through its Azure Quantum service. Azure reached $100 billion in annualised revenue in fiscal 2026. Microsoft had $19.6 billion in free cash flow in the fiscal fourth quarter, so it can fund quantum work without the runway risks smaller rivals face. Fourth-quarter revenue rose 18% to $90 billion. Management expects Azure revenue to grow 45% in fiscal 2027, and Microsoft reports first-quarter results on October 28.

VW gives 330,000 staff Microsoft Copilot while pushing a pay freeze to 2030

Volkswagen has equipped more than 330,000 employees with Microsoft Copilot, the AI assistant built into Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams, Microsoft said on October 21. The group says it is used in engineering, production, procurement, and sales. Two days earlier, Volkswagen's labour representatives said the company wants to hold salaries at 2026 levels for the rest of the decade. The company declined to comment on what it called "speculation." Trade union IG Metall is seeking a 5% raise over 12 months. At Microsoft's list price of $30 per user a month, 330,000 seats would cost at most $118.8 million a year. Neither company has disclosed what Volkswagen pays. Volkswagen is also targeting €6 billion in annual net savings by 2030 and plans job cuts in Germany.

Microsoft's AI diagnoses complex cases 83% of the time, versus 36% for generalist doctors

Microsoft's AI diagnostic system correctly diagnosed complex medical cases in a simulation 83% of the time, against 36% for generalist physicians, according to a study published in Science. The system, MAI-DxO, coordinates several AI agents that question a patient, order tests, and debate a diagnosis. The cases came from the New England Journal of Medicine. Specialists and physician teams, who usually handle such cases, were not part of the comparison. Much of the gain came from stronger underlying models, especially OpenAI's GPT-5 and GPT-5.5. MAI-DxO helped most on complex cases and with weaker models, but little on emergency department cases. Microsoft AI chief executive officer Mustafa Suleyman called the result a step toward "medical superintelligence." Microsoft is working with Mayo Clinic on a healthcare foundation model, and will test MAI-DxO with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

Amazon's $40B data centre push strains drought-hit Aragon as residents fight back

Aragon, a drought-stricken region of northeast Spain, has become a magnet for US tech companies building data centres. Amazon Web Services promises to spend almost $40 billion on several large complexes there, and Microsoft and Blackstone have also signed agreements. Regional authorities, which call Aragon the "Virginia of southern Europe," offered tax breaks and fast-tracked permits. They expect jobs and a place in the "new economy" that AI will bring. Amazon says it will create 6,200 permanent jobs. Residents and farmers fear water shortages, noise, and harm to wildlife, including birds killed by wind turbines that power the centres. Environmental groups have crowdfunded a legal challenge to Amazon's expansion and say the approvals were rushed.
