  • A background completing IT audits and up-to-date technical knowledge of IT auditing standards; CISA or an equivalent IT audit qualification is ideal.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of risks inherent in the general insurance industry, specifically digital and algorithmic underwriting; familiarity with the Lloyd’s market is preferred.
  • High-level understanding of business and IT controls expected in a general insurance group to manage risk; experience with a Lloyd’s Managing Agent and Lloyd’s Syndicates is preferred.
  • Familiarity with operational risk management techniques, including risk appetite, risk registers, risk scoring and prioritisation, control risk self-assessment, and risk committees.
  • Experience working in professional audit or a strong operational insurance background, such as experience in a relevant professional services organisation.
  • Prior experience planning and executing assurance work on the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls, including their documentation.
  • Knowledge of the technical aspects of underwriting and non-underwriting support functions.
  • Good working knowledge and awareness of financial accounting and reporting standards, including International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Solvency II.
  • Awareness or working knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley.
  • Proficiency in producing professionally written audit reports.
  • Proactive and competent in taking ownership of a review and its end-to-end delivery.
Responsibilities
  • Assess the adequacy and operating effectiveness of processes and controls for identifying, analysing, and managing key risks within Ki’s Risk Appetite by examining, challenging, testing, and critiquing Ki’s Risk Management Process.
  • Deliver audits in the Annual Internal Audit Plan in accordance with Internal Audit Procedures, independently reviewing or auditing relevant control-framework documentation, including policies, protocols, processes, procedures, information security and privacy management systems frameworks, and underwriting guidelines; complete ad hoc assignments as required.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders to plan and scope assigned audits using Ki Internal Audit Procedures.
  • Produce audit planning documentation using established templates and agreed formats, including a Risk and Control Matrix and supporting working papers for a comprehensive audit file.
  • Conduct audit fieldwork in line with Internal Audit Procedures, using techniques such as interviews, meetings to evidence controls, substantive work, and controls testing; determine sample sizes using Ki’s Internal Audit sampling methodology.
  • Record testing results in the Risk and Control Matrix to a clear, concise, re-performable standard, citing and making audit evidence retrievable so independent reviewers can understand the testing and its conclusions. Document results to support updates to the Group RR and populate audit reports, then refine reports generated from the matrix template.
  • Negotiate acceptance of findings and actions with Management, then produce professional Internal Audit reports for Management, Executive and Non-Executive Directors, External Auditors, and potentially external parties such as the PRA, FCA, and Lloyd’s, in line with Ki’s report format.
  • Liaise with Management to oversee and monitor agreed audit actions, sense-checking business-provided information and evidence to confirm action-point completion.
  • Assist the Senior Manager in preparing quarterly Audit Committee and Board papers with clear, concise messaging on key topics.
  • Assist the Senior Manager in planning the forthcoming year’s audit timetable, including audit selection criteria.
  • Contribute to developing audit techniques, including using data analytics and AI tools such as Gemini, ClaudeCode, and CoPilot, to improve audit work and maintain its relevance to business needs.
Desired Qualifications
  • CISA or an equivalent IT audit qualification.
  • Particular focus on the Lloyd’s market in general insurance, digital, and algorithmic underwriting risk.
  • Experience with the controls expected in a Lloyd’s Managing Agent and Lloyd’s Syndicates.

About the company

Ki Insurance runs a digital, algorithmic underwriting platform for the London market. It collects quotes from multiple capacity partners in one place and offers follow capacity—additional insurance based on a lead quote and risk information—through its network, including Aspen Digital Syndicate 4711, Beazley Syndicates 623 and 2623, Ki Syndicate 1618, and Travelers Syndicate 5000. Machine learning helps improve underwriting efficiency and accuracy, enabling brokers and underwriters to compare and attach more capacity. Unlike firms that provide a single quote from one carrier, Ki combines several capacity quotes and supports risk sharing with partners, backed by substantial investor capital (Blackstone and Fairfax) and a high Gross Written Premium of £834 million in 2022, making it the largest insurtech in London. Its goal is to simplify insurance placement, expand capacity, and better manage risk in the London market by scaling digital underwriting and partner networks.

What believers are saying

  • Ki reported H1 2026 adjusted profit before tax of $75.6 million, up 22%.
  • FY2025 managed premium reached $1.11 billion, with $205.5 million from partners.
  • Jacques Bonneau’s July 2025 chair appointment strengthens governance for growth.

What critics are saying

  • Ki depends on Lloyd’s follow business, exposing it to broker and syndicate substitution.
  • TMK, QBE, Beazley, Aspen, and Travelers can reprioritize capacity if returns deteriorate.
  • If Ki’s underwriting edge compresses, Fairfax owns a capital-heavy, easily copied platform.

What makes Ki unique

  • Ki’s algorithmic follow underwriting binds broker quotes across six Lloyd’s syndicates instantly.
  • TMK joined in April 2026, validating Ki’s digital distribution with fifth capacity partner.
  • Standalone from January 2025, Ki kept Blackstone and Fairfax capital backing.
