Raffaele Annecchino, former CEO of Paramount International, dies at 55.

Raffaele Annecchino, former CEO of Paramount International, dies at 55. He helped the company transition from traditional broadcasting to digital, supporting the overseas expansion of Paramount+ and Pluto TV. September 3, 2026 8:39pm Raffaele Annecchino, the Italian-born former president and CEO of Paramount International, died suddenly over the weekend while on vacation in the Balearic Islands from meningitis, his press office announced. He was 55. Over more than 25 years at Paramount and Viacom/CBS starting in the late 1990s, Annecchino rose from an early commercial role in Madrid to oversee the company's operations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Asia. As head of Paramount International, Annecchino helped the company transition from traditional broadcasting to digital platforms. He led the overseas rollout of Paramount+, supported the global expansion of Pluto TV and championed innovation, digitization and strategic partnerships. He also was instrumental in the 2022 creation of SkyShowtime, the joint venture between Paramount and Comcast. Known for his negotiation skills, Annecchino worked closely with major players across the global media ecosystem, including Sky, Canal+, MultiChoice, Viaplay, Corus, J:COM, Claro and Mediapro. He oversaw the growth of networks such as MTV, Nickelodeon, BET, Channel 5 in the U.K., Network 10 in Australia, Telefe in Argentina and Chilevisión in Chile and backed the development of production hubs across Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America. He took over as president and CEO of ViacomCBS Networks International in December 2020. "Such sad news. Raffa was a force of nature. Taken way too young," former Paramount president and CEO Bob Bakish said on social media. "He will be missed by many. May he rest in peace." After leaving Paramount, Annecchino in 2023 founded Blue Ocean Media Partners, a global consultancy focused on innovation, transformation and growth, as its managing partner and CEO. Born in 1971 in Ivrea, Italy, Annecchino graduated from IE Business School in Madrid with an MBA. He also completed a media executive program at Harvard Business School and INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France. He also served on the boards of Viacom 18 India, SBS Media in South Korea and SkyShowtime. "Raffaele was a deeply valued colleague and a dear friend," Alex Okosi, former managing director of Paramount Africa and now managing director of Google Africa, said in a statement. "Having worked alongside him through years of international growth and transformation, I saw firsthand his rare ability to combine sharp commercial instinct and strategic vision with genuine warmth, humanity and optimism. "He built lasting trust, inspired those around him to think bigger and always made time for people. His impact on the global media industry is undeniable, but for those fortunate enough to have known and worked with him, his warmth, generosity and spirit will be just as enduring." You May Like

Paramount tops Q2 revenue expectations with $6.91B as broadcasting stocks beat forecasts by 3%

Paramount Global reported Q2 revenues of $6.91 billion, flat year-on-year but exceeding analyst expectations by 0.7%. The results showed a strong beat on EBITDA estimates, though earnings per share met analyst forecasts. The broadcasting sector faced mixed results overall, with the six tracked stocks beating revenue consensus estimates by 3%. Next quarter's guidance came in 3.1% above expectations. Despite delivering the weakest guidance update amongst its peers, Paramount's share price has risen 28.2% since the earnings announcement. The company, formerly ViacomCBS, owns properties including Spongebob Squarepants and operates television, film production, and digital content platforms globally. Broadcasting companies continue facing headwinds from cord-cutting and rising content costs, though live sports programming and political advertising provide some support.

August 27, 2026 A newly released preview image from Legendary and Paramount's upcoming Street Fighter live-action reboot offers a fresh look at gaming's most famous fighting duo: Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) standing shoulder-to-shoulder. Directed by Kitao Sakurai, the film hits theaters on October 16, 2026, promising to embrace the arcade energy of the '90s with heavy martial arts training and faithfulness to Capcom's source material. Character preparation & Authentic combat. To translate Capcom's iconic fighting styles to the screen, the lead actors underwent intensive training routines to build real martial arts credentials. * Authentic Martial Arts Foundation: Andrew Koji studied Shotokan karate, judo, jujitsu, and kickboxing to give Ryu's moves real physical weight rather than relying solely on stunt doubles. * Six-Week Intensive Bootcamp: Noah Centineo, Andrew Koji, and Callina Liang trained six days a week for six consecutive weeks to master coordinated fight choreography. * Respecting the Arcade Heritage: Koji shared his personal history as a casual "button-basher" playing Ryu as a child, using that connection to ground the iconic hero in genuine emotion and martial tradition. The 1993 Tournament & narrative blueprint. Set in 1993, the reboot brings the franchise back to its classic arcade era roots while building a cinematic plot around the World Warrior Tournament. * Reconnecting Estranged Rivals: Ryu and Ken begin the film separated by past grievances until Chun-Li recruits them for the ultimate martial arts competition. * Shadaloo's Shadow: Beneath the glory of the ring lies a sinister conspiracy orchestrated by M. Bison (David Dastmalchian), forcing the heroes to battle internal demons and external threats before reaching "Game Over". Ensemble World Warrior cast. California AG Bonta kills Paramount settlement talks as media giant eyes exit.

California AG Bonta kills Paramount settlement talks as media giant eyes exit. Bonta abandons talks while Paramount eyes Tennessee, risking a billion-dollar penalty on a deal the feds already cleared. California's top cop blew up settlement talks with Paramount just as the media giant signaled it's ready to flee the state - leaving working Americans to watch whether a leftist regulator kills a deal the federal government already cleared, or a Hollywood institution votes with its feet. The stakes are real. California Attorney General Rob Bonta canceled Monday's planned settlement meeting late Sunday, accusing Paramount of leaking and misrepresenting details from a Friday preliminary session. "Not only did Paramount leak the alleged substance of settlement discussions, but they misrepresented these discussions, demonstrating a lack of good faith," Bonta said in a statement to the New York Times. "As soon as Paramount stops playing games and engages sincerely, my office is happy to meet again." Bonta never specified what was leaked or how it was misrepresented. Here's what's actually happening: Bonta is leading a coalition of 12 states suing to block David Ellison's proposed $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, claiming the merger would reduce competition in theatrical movie distribution and cable programming. The Justice Department cleared the transaction in June. Regulators in Europe, Britain, and China have also signed off. Bonta is the last major obstacle standing - and he's demanding "structural remedies," which means forced asset sales and restrictions on how Ellison can run Warner Bros. Ellison won't accept those terms, according to the Wall Street Journal. He's offered to commit to 30 theatrical releases per year instead. The nation's three largest theater chains - AMC, Regal, and Cinemark - have all publicly backed the merger. The financial clock is brutal. If the deal doesn't close by October 1, Paramount owes Warner Bros. shareholders roughly $650 million per quarter - potentially over $1 billion in delay penalties alone. Meanwhile, Paramount has made clear it's prepared to leave California. The Wall Street Journal reports Tennessee has emerged as the preferred destination for a new headquarters. The New York Post also reports Ellison has been negotiating for a prospective studio facility in Austin, Texas. That threat has California's political class scrambling. Governor Gavin Newsom, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, and gubernatorial candidate Xavier Becerra have all pushed Bonta to settle, fearing a Paramount exodus and job losses for below-the-line crew workers. Newsom publicly praised Bonta's willingness to negotiate, saying, "What's the best deal? That has to be worked through." Breitbart framed the standoff as Democrat-on-Democrat pressure, emphasizing that Bonta caved to his own party's demands for talks before pulling the plug. Variety and the Post kept the focus on the deal mechanics and the leak accusation. Nobody pressed Bonta on the specific leak he claims derailed the talks. The federal government said this deal is fine. Major theater chains said this deal is fine. Foreign regulators said this deal is fine. One state AG - accountable to no voters outside California - is holding up an $111 billion transaction and demanding corporate restructuring as the price of permission. And when the other side allegedly leaks details, he walks away from the table. The question isn't whether Paramount leaks. It's whether one state's regulator should have veto power over a deal the rest of the world has already approved - and whether California's political class will keep eating its own as the exodus accelerates.
