  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school, or at least one year of verifiable and applicable work experience as a Medical Assistant in a patient care setting.
  • Maintain current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification.
  • Maintain current certification or registration from an accepted agency: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcare Association (NHA); Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA); Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) by the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA); National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT); Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) or Nationally Registered Certified Advanced Medical Assistant (NRCAMA) by the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP); or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologists (AMT), the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA), or American Allied Health (AAH).
  • Applicants with an accepted Medical Assistant certification or registration from an agency not listed may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Responsibilities
  • Perform patient care in an ambulatory setting under the direction of a physician or Advanced Practice Provider (APP).
  • Be accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues.
  • Participate in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process improvement activities.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with patients and family members.
  • Collaborate with administrative and operations staff.
  • Gather patient data through interview and observation.
  • Assist patients and families with preparation for examinations.
  • Assist the physician or APP during examinations and procedures.
  • Demonstrate competency in practice-defined tasks and skills.
  • Provide routine treatments and administer approved medication types.
  • Document patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department-specific policies.
  • Act as a patient liaison to schedule specialty testing and/or specialty physician consultations, and provide scheduling information.
  • Process incoming and outgoing calls independently and professionally using sound clinical judgment.
  • Enter medication, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under a provider's direction.
  • Comply with Orlando Health and department-specific policies, procedures, value statements, and Commitment to Excellent standards.
  • Follow personal and patient safety practices and infection control standards outlined in Orlando Health policies.
  • Maintain reasonably regular and punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and applicable federal, state, and local standards.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and assess data appropriate to the age-specific needs of patients in the assigned department or unit.
  • Demonstrate awareness of medical/legal issues, patient rights, and regulatory and accrediting agency standards.
  • Use supplies efficiently.
  • Assist the business office as needed with reception, scheduling, and patient discharge.

Florida cancer centre opens 31,000 sq ft St Petersburg facility with on-site imaging

Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute has opened a new 31,000-square-foot facility at Orlando Health Institute Square in St. Petersburg, expanding cancer care access in Pinellas County. The location at 725 6th Ave South features 18 private exam rooms, 47 infusion chairs and on-site PET/CT imaging.
