Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Five years of experience in the civil construction field is required.
  • Three years of experience supervising a construction crew as a Foreman or Lead is required.
  • A valid state driver’s license is required, along with qualification to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company’s Driving Policy.
  • The ability to pass drug, driving, and background screenings is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of field construction concepts, practices, and procedures is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction materials, terms, and practices is required.
  • Experience reading plans and understanding assigned construction tasks is required.
  • The ability to read and interpret safety rules, regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, blueprints, and specifications is required.
  • The ability to organize resources, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and manage time is required.
  • Leadership skills and the ability to take initiative and lead a work crew are required.
  • The ability to work in a team environment, take direction from supervisors, follow work rules, and adhere to project schedules is required.
  • Customer-service skills for communicating with inspectors and administration are required.
  • Decision-making skills for selecting personnel and subcontractors for specific tasks and jobs are required.
  • Writing skills for preparing budgets, proposals, and plans and documenting work progress are required.

Responsibilities
  • Execute work plans and schedules in accordance with contract requirements, plans, and specifications.
  • Coordinate daily tasks according to priorities and plans, adjusting for weather, supply, delivery, and personnel changes.
  • Provide adequate resources and staffing to meet project schedules, laws, regulations, best practices, and safety needs.
  • Report project status regularly to supervisors, site engineers, and other officials.
  • Coordinate material and equipment deliveries with vendors and suppliers.
  • Create schedules for workers and subcontractors.
  • Maintain a daily log of job-site operations and report to management as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records including job quantities, productivity rates, timesheets, and daily management reports.
  • Complete work assignments on time and within estimated costs.
  • Check crew work continuously and adjust the work plan or schedule as required, notifying project-management staff.
  • Assist with skilled trades and general construction duties as part of the construction crew.
  • Ensure team members follow field project processes and standard operating procedures.
  • Oversee project crews by providing leadership, training, and development, promoting positive morale, and ensuring safe work practices.
  • Report incidents, situations, or activities that may affect the company’s ability to operate safely, ethically, and profitably to the Field Civil Superintendent or Site Project Manager.
  • Ensure projects are executed safely and according to contract requirements and company policies.
  • Support and promote the Company’s Health and Safety Program.
  • Monitor site compliance and safety audit results, and suspend or modify work practices as directed by the Project Management Team.
  • Verify that required safety equipment is available, properly maintained, and used according to project and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain certifications required by law or company policy.
  • Supervise and direct underground utilities craft workers and subcontractors.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of scheduling, material control, unit manhour performance, estimating fundamentals, and job cost management systems is preferred.
  • Experience with underground utility management is preferred.
  • Completion of OSHA 30-hour training is preferred.
