Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree or related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • At least 4 years of related experience, including staff and volunteer supervision, program development, budget management, and fundraising.
  • Ability or experience training aquatic employees.
  • Current lifeguard and swim instructor certification from a recognized organization such as the Red Cross or YMCA.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
  • Current Administering Emergency Oxygen certification.
  • Ability to obtain YSLI-T, LGI, and CAP Trainer certifications within the first 90 days or at the first training offered.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and represent the Y professionally.
  • Strong computer skills, including word processing, database, spreadsheet software, and web-based applications.
  • Ability to obtain required certifications within 30 days of hire.
Responsibilities
  • Direct and manage the development, operations, and growth of the Aquatics Department to meet the needs of the community served.
  • Establish innovative aquatics programming and expand programs within the branch and community in accordance with Association and branch strategic plans.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Develop and manage aquatics budgets while meeting or exceeding fiscal objectives.
  • Monitor revenue and expenses closely.
  • Recruit, hire, train, mentor, evaluate, and supervise assigned staff and volunteers.
  • Provide development and leadership to direct reports.
  • Partner with Human Resources to develop an annual recruiting strategy that ensures a steady pool of quality candidates.
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed and that programs and pool decks comply with YMCA standards, regulations, and other applicable standards.
  • Compile program statistics and provide required data and reports.
  • Monitor program quality through program evaluations and ongoing staff training.
  • Conduct lifeguarding and swim instructor certification training and in-service training for Aquatics staff.
  • Create staff and pool schedule templates to ensure proper staffing ratios and effective use of the pool.
  • Provide leadership and support for the branch management team, annual fundraising campaign, volunteer recruitment, and assigned volunteer committees or boards.
  • Collaborate with the Association Marketing Department to develop, produce, and distribute information promoting aquatics programming.
  • Ensure staff are properly screened, trained, supervised, and held accountable to the organization's abuse risk-management standards.
  • Adhere to abuse-prevention policies, maintain appropriate boundaries, complete required training, report suspicious or inappropriate behavior, and comply with mandated-reporting requirements.
Desired Qualifications
  • Preferred knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations, including differences in language, culture, race, physical ability, and sexual orientation.
  • Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
