Requirements
  • An Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology.
  • Eligibility for certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by a recognized certifying agency.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts.
  • Ability to perform work involving exposure to biohazardous conditions, blood-borne pathogens, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and possible radiation exposure.
  • Ability to perform frequent bending, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, twisting, and walking, with occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Collect, process, and handle blood and other biological specimens in accordance with established procedures, and instruct patients in appropriate sample collection.
  • Conduct clinical laboratory tests in hematology, microbiology, immunology, clinical chemistry, and urinalysis as assigned.
  • Conduct chemical analyses of body fluids, including blood, urine, and spinal fluid, using a microscope or automated analysis equipment.
  • Conduct blood tests for transfusion purposes and blood counts.
  • Develop and maintain cell and tissue cultures for testing, and examine cells to locate abnormalities.
  • Prepare volumetric solutions and reagents for combination with samples, following standardized formulas or experimental procedures.
  • Set up, adjust, maintain, and clean laboratory equipment.
  • Promote safety, environmental, and infection-control practices and methods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
