Responsibilities
  • Direct and control Center Store Departments, including supervising and training personnel to achieve departmental and store sales and profit objectives.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations on operational issues and personnel decisions to the Store Director and division management.
  • Champion customer service programs and instill a culture of excellent customer service throughout the department and store.
  • Direct total store operations and associates, including department managers, in the absence of or as needed by the Store Director.
  • Plan, organize, and direct daily operations of the Center Store Departments, including dairy and frozen food sections.
  • Conduct daily inspections of grocery sections and initiate corrective measures for product quality, product rotation, code dates, cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and security compliance.
  • Control pricing according to division pricing guidelines and ensure compliance with coupon and discount policies.
  • Implement company and division operating and merchandising policies and practices.
  • Control merchandise shrink and supervise and participate in store inventory counts.
  • Establish Center Store Department operating procedures and implement company policies, division directives, and Store Director instructions.
  • Implement emergency procedures during equipment and computer software malfunctions or failures.
  • Order grocery products and maintain inventory levels according to division directives.
  • Supervise reclamation processing and maintain orderly, in-stock conditions in back rooms, sales floors, and grocery department areas.
  • Supervise receiving, storing, stocking, pricing, and merchandising of Center Store Department products.
  • Use hand trucks, pallet jacks, and the bailer as needed, account for merchandise received, and maintain customer and vendor relations.
  • Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques; monitor daily log sheets, purchase reports, actual versus projected sales, and labor.
  • Prepare and display appropriate product signage.
  • Direct, schedule, motivate, train, and participate in hiring Center Store Department personnel.
  • Ensure associates are instructed in work duties and understand company policies and procedures.
  • Monitor associate performance and recommend hiring, firing, layoff, promotion, demotion, and disciplinary actions.
  • Build and maintain associate morale, resolve associate complaints when appropriate, and report actions to the Store Director.
  • Report serious policy violations, including working off the clock, harassment, food safety and sanitation, and discrimination, to the Store Director and assist with appropriate handling.
  • Identify and train associates with high potential for advancement.
  • Understand the store and Center Store Department profit and loss statements and plan department promotions accordingly.
  • Communicate sales goals, department performance, and sales opportunities to department associates.
  • Answer and appropriately respond to incoming telephone calls and resolve customer complaints.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding associates, store sales, and company information, and maintain accurate department records.
  • Perform duties honestly and with integrity in compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Attend required training and sales meetings.
  • Provide operational feedback and recommendations to Store Director, District Manager, Director of Operations, and division management teams.
  • Cover various store positions and assist in other departments as business needs require.
  • Comply with company grooming standards and dress code.

Albertsons closes 20 stores, cuts hundreds of jobs after $24.6B Kroger merger blocked

Albertsons is closing additional stores and cutting jobs nationwide following the collapse of its $24.6 billion merger with Kroger. Major US grocery chains close dozens of stores, lay off thousands

Major US supermarket chains are closing underperforming stores and warehouses as they compete with big-box retailers like Walmart and Target. Albertsons closes 120-year-old Vons grocery store in California, cuts 65 jobs
