Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Provide medical support assistance for clinic patients following established standards and practices.
  • Greet and assist patients as needed.
  • Obtain, organize, and maintain patient files.
  • Answer and return patient phone calls in coordination with nursing and office staff.
  • Perform administrative tasks as needed, including entering office charges into the electronic health record.
  • Assist physicians and other clinical staff with patient exams, treatments, and in-office procedures.
  • Work in coordination with and as directed by physicians, nurses, or the office manager as duties require.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms and take histories and vital signs as indicated.
  • Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments.
  • Instruct patients in the collection of samples, testing, and procedures.
  • Schedule appointments, exams, surgeries, and tests as needed.
  • Screen and respond to triage calls and ensure follow-up by a nurse or physician.
  • Obtain and send medical reports and records from other healthcare providers as needed.
  • Sterilize equipment and instruments daily as used, and clean and stock rooms as scheduled or necessary.
  • Attend required clinical meetings.
  • Assist with obtaining prior authorizations for applicable procedures and tests.
  • Assist with completing FMLA, work release, and other related forms.
  • Perform phlebotomy procedures when ordered, coordinate laboratory samples with applicable outside laboratories, and complete or assist with in-office laboratory processing and reporting.
  • Complete applicable online and other laboratory requisitions accompanying blood samples sent to outside laboratories.
  • Administer injections, immunizations, and medications as directed by physicians.
  • Assist physicians and other clinical staff with patient prescriptions.
  • Dispose of medical waste appropriately.
  • Enter office charges and perform related support duties through the clinic electronic medical record system.
  • Maintain patient privacy in written medical records and computer records.
  • Maintain performance, patient and employee satisfaction, and financial standards outlined in the performance evaluation.
  • Perform compliance requirements outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Adhere to DCH Behavioral Standards and create positive relationships with patients, families, coworkers, and colleagues.
  • Perform essential job functions in a manner that ensures the safety of patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Identify and reduce unsafe practices that may result in harm to patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Recognize and take appropriate action to reduce risks and hazards to promote safety for patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Use electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software, and the intranet.
  • Adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
