Requirements
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of all aspects of commissioning.
  • Have a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management, or equivalent degree or equivalent work experience in the field.
  • Have an educational background in materials and methods of construction.
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of project commissioning management experience.
  • Have extensive experience in industrial and/or high-tech semiconductor projects.
  • Be familiar with medium- and low-voltage distribution, large generators, UPS equipment, and electrical installations on large mechanical and process equipment.
  • Have experience organizing technical data accurately and be familiar with the CSI specification system for construction.
  • Be able to work closely with trade and craft workers in field situations and maintain a cooperative attitude under pressure.
  • Be able to handle several work activities simultaneously while frequently interrupted by phone calls and urgent questions about work in progress.
  • Have training in design and construction document reading, design specifications, survey theory, and techniques.
  • Have highly developed visual observation and interpretation skills.
  • Have written and verbal communication skills and be able to work closely with project owners, architects, engineers, equipment manufacturers, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Be able to work well with varied personalities and minimal instruction, remain calm in high-pressure situations, and work flexibly.
  • Be able to physically access all areas and levels of a construction site, climb stairs, and lift or carry up to 20 pounds.
  • Be proficient in Windows, Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and Outlook, and Bluebeam.
  • Have experience with project management software such as Prolog, Procore, E-Builder, Microsoft Project, or Primavera Project Planner (P6).
  • Have experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks.
  • Be able to stand, walk, and sit during the workday; use hands and fingers for computer work; meet the stated vision, hearing, and speech requirements; and perform minimal bending, twisting, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Maintain mental alertness, accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently, make effective decisions, follow through on assignments, and organize work efficiently.
  • Possess strong organizational and computer-use skills and be able to read, write, and speak English, interpret construction-related documentation, and communicate with coworkers.
  • Have a flexible schedule that allows extended hours or off-shift work to accommodate changing construction schedules and sequences.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the project management team in keeping subcontractors’ startup dates on schedule.
  • Understand all system requirements for performing startups, including prerequisite work and successor activities needed to facilitate startup and operation of each system.
  • Implement and manage the project QA/QC program and review and approve subcontractor QA/QC programs for alignment.
  • Schedule and coordinate QC specialists.
  • Perform onsite inspections, including inspections of underground utilities and delivered owner-furnished equipment.
  • Conduct QA/QC meetings and ensure subcontractors follow their approved QA/QC plans.
  • Participate in scheduling meetings to keep startups on schedule and assist construction managers in revising schedules to achieve feasible startup dates.
  • Ensure systems can be operated safely and that safety precautions are in place before operation.
  • Verify subcontractors and vendors have completed all aspects of startup.
  • Coordinate work with mechanical, electrical, and electrical low-voltage project managers and their teams.
  • Interpret construction documents, control sequences, and technical manuals.
  • Lead startup meetings with area construction managers, design team members, subcontractors, local utility agencies, and owners to coordinate and drive MEP system startup activities.
  • Interface between area construction managers and subcontractors to coordinate mechanical and electrical startups.
  • Verify documentation is complete and equipment is fully constructed and safe to start.
  • Organize and facilitate training for owner personnel on operation and maintenance of all systems.
  • Review and process project submittals and coordinate them to ensure accuracy and functionality of system components.
  • Receive and distribute requests for information and revised documents issued by other offices.
  • Organize, complete, and file record documents.
  • Store and retrieve information using a computer and other handheld electronic hardware.
  • Serve as a technical advisor in the onsite field construction office.
  • Access construction site areas and levels to review work progress.
  • Write and publish meeting minutes, schedule graphs, and activity checklists.
  • Communicate verbally, in writing, and electronically.
