About the job
- The candidate must be at least 21 years old.
- The candidate must be able to use meat-department tools and equipment, including saws, a grinder, a cubing machine, a sealer, and a wrapper machine.
- The candidate must be able to cut and prepare beef, pork, lamb, and veal, grind meat, and prepare cube steaks and patty steaks.
- The candidate must be able to follow company safety and sanitation guidelines and maintain cleanliness of the work area, equipment, and meat cases.
- The candidate must be able to bend, stoop, work in a cold and wet environment, lift 125 to 150 pounds, and remain on their feet for an entire eight-hour shift.
- Internal candidates must be in good standing and not be on a performance improvement plan or active discipline.
- Internal candidates must obtain manager approval based on performance if invited to an interview.
- Provide friendly and courteous service to customers.
- Weigh, wrap, label, and price products.
- Clean all meat equipment and tools.
- Perform work in the service meat department.
- Prepare products for the service meat case.
- Suggestively sell products and provide product samples.
- Receive products from the warehouse.
- Stock, straighten, and rotate products in meat cases and coolers.
- Read and understand shelf tags.
- Follow company safety guidelines when using equipment.
- Provide customers with proper cooking instructions.
- Check and maintain proper temperature controls for coolers, freezers, and the cutting room.
- At closing, pull products from the service meat case for proper storage.
- Perform other duties assigned at the discretion of store management.
- Complete training provided at the store level.
- Some experience in a retail meat department.
- At least six months of employment with Schnucks is preferred for store or facility teammates.
- At least one year of employment with Schnucks is preferred for Store Support Center teammates.
