Workday's potential $51B Silver Lake deal could create floor for struggling software sector

Dan Niles, founder of Niles Investment Management, said Silver Lake's potential acquisition of Workday could create a floor for the struggling software sector. Reuters reported the talks on Thursday, sending Workday shares up nearly 18% to $206.45, boosting its valuation from $43 billion to around $51.1 billion. Niles noted the deal would rival Silver Lake's record $55 billion Electronic Arts buyout. He said AI-native companies like Anthropic and OpenAI are pressuring the software industry, but the Workday deal could help the sector outperform the S&P 500 through year-end. The iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF is down 3% over the past year, whilst the S&P 500 has gained over 20%. Palo Alto Networks CEO Nikesh Arora responded on X, saying AI poses no existential threat to cybersecurity companies.

Three Link Solutions launches ExpenseGuard app to detect expense report fraud and anomalies in Workday

Three Link Solutions has launched ExpenseGuard, a Workday Marketplace app designed to detect expense report anomalies and analyse risk levels automatically. The app helps finance and audit teams identify high-risk expense reports by flagging potential mistakes or fraudulent activities across expense types, departments, and individuals. ExpenseGuard addresses asset misappropriation, the most common form of workplace fraud, which often involves expense report schemes. The app provides streamlined workflows for reviewing flagged transactions and dashboards for drilling into specific risk areas. "We developed ExpenseGuard as an additional safeguard against fraudulent activities or mistakes that can slip through the cracks," said Greg Knowlton, founding partner of Three Link Solutions. The app integrates with Workday Financial Management, helping customers reduce manual review cycles whilst improving audit readiness and expense approval accuracy.

EHS Insight joins Workday partner programme to connect workforce data with safety compliance

EHS Insight has joined the Workday Partner Program to integrate its environmental, health and safety (EHS) management software with Workday Human Capital Management (HCM). The integration automatically synchronises employee data, job roles and employment status changes from Workday into EHS Insight's platform. The connection enables organisations to streamline safety training assignments, maintain OSHA logs and improve compliance reporting without manual data entry. Multi-site manufacturers, energy providers and healthcare systems are already using the integration to align HR and safety operations. The partnership extends Workday's capabilities into operational safety and EHS compliance, particularly for high-risk industries including manufacturing, logistics, energy, maritime and construction. The integration also supports ESG and sustainability reporting by connecting facility-level environmental and safety data with workforce information.
