Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a specialized diploma.
  • Knowledge of patient- and family-centered practice, including respecting and collaborating with patients, families, and designated care partners in care planning.
  • Cultural awareness and the ability to convey respect and connect effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques, including accurately transmitting, receiving, and interpreting ideas, information, and needs.
  • Knowledge of patient assessment and care, including assessing ailments and injuries and implementing treatment plans.
  • Knowledge of child and adult education techniques, including eliciting learning priorities and educating patients and designated care partners about conditions, treatments, medications, and recovery steps.
  • Knowledge of medications used to treat patients and the ability to administer medications and prescribe drugs for continuing treatment outside the hospital.
  • Knowledge of post-discharge needs and the ability to develop discharge plans and arrange follow-up care with patients and families or designated care partners.
  • Knowledge of patient assessment and nursing diagnosis or clinical judgment tools and techniques, including analyzing symptoms and generating appropriate resolutions.
  • Knowledge of health information and documentation methods, including recording medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and medical results in written or electronic form.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification.
  • Licensed registered nurse in Pennsylvania.
  • Active registered nurse license in the state of practice.
  • Ability to lift and carry 40–50 pounds and perform frequent to continuous standing and walking.
  • Ability to perform role-specific physical activities, including kneeling, bending, squatting, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Responsibilities
  • Use the nursing process to address the physical, psychological, emotional, and social needs of diverse patients.
  • Develop individualized nursing plans of care with patients and their designated care partners that reflect their priorities, cultural beliefs, and values.
  • Interact with coworkers, patients, families, designated care partners, and other staff in accordance with Jefferson values.
  • Integrate evidence-based practice, clinical expertise, and patient and family preferences into healthcare delivery.
  • Partner with patients and designated care partners to identify learning needs and priorities and provide understandable, affirming education.
  • Follow established nursing practices and protocols to minimize the risk of harm to patients and others.
  • Use information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate errors, and support ethical decision-making.
  • Use data to monitor care-process outcomes and apply improvement methods to design and test changes that improve patient-care quality and safety.
  • Function effectively within nursing and interprofessional teams to achieve quality patient care through shared decision-making.
  • Provide safe, compassionate, coordinated care based on patients' personal preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs and values.
  • Act as a primary preceptor for appropriate staff members.
  • Participate in hospital- and practice-setting-based committees, including safety and quality-improvement committees.
  • Give and receive feedback and integrate appropriate changes into practice.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, completion of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, or an appropriate advanced degree within three years of hire.
  • One year of previous registered nurse experience in an acute-care setting.
