Walmart commits $6B to Symbotic to automate 25 distribution centres

Walmart has signed an expanded agreement with Symbotic, committing about $6 billion to automate 25 US regional distribution centres. The money will also support wider supply chain projects over several years. The spend points to a heavy bet on warehouse robotics and e-commerce inventory management, aimed at denser storage, faster fulfilment, and lower long-term operating costs. Because the deal is capital intensive and spread over years, its near-term effect on results is likely limited. Walmart also bundled its Walmart+ and Sam's Club Plus memberships for $120 a year, leaning further into recurring fee income.

Symbotic stock risk: revenue growth slows to 20.6% as shares fall 40.8%

Symbotic's sales growth is slowing, which is the main worry for holders of the automated warehouse systems seller. Revenue rose 20.6% in the twelve months ended June 2026, down from 133.6% in 2023, 56.9% in 2024, and 35.7% a year later. The stock fell 40.8% over the past year, while the S&P 500 gained 16.5%. The company only recently turned an operating profit, with a margin of 0.34% against a 1.9% loss a year earlier. Symbotic has a $22.5 billion backlog and no debt. Guidance for fiscal Q4 2026 of $700 million to $780 million implies about 20% growth. The key measure is year-on-year revenue growth in its fiscal Q4 report, expected in November 2026.
