About the company

Apollo Global Management invests money for pension funds, insurers, wealthy individuals and its own retirement business, with most of its assets in private credit, meaning loans arranged directly with companies rather than bought on public markets. It also runs private equity and real estate funds, and its buyout teams have a long record of backing troubled or complex companies. Apollo owns Athene, a retirement insurer that sells annuities and gives the premiums to Apollo to invest, so the firm earns fees from clients plus the spread between Athene's investment returns and what it pays policyholders. Apollo was founded in 1990 and is based in New York.

What believers are saying

  • Money keeps arriving: Apollo took in $60 billion of inflows in the June 2026 quarter, $22 billion at Athene.
  • Apollo posted record results: adjusted net income reached $1.3 billion in the June 2026 quarter.
  • The fee income behind salaries is growing: Apollo's management fees rose 23% year over year in the June 2026 quarter.

What critics are saying

  • Retail clients want out: Apollo Debt Solutions withdrawal requests hit 16.8%, about $2.4 billion, in June 2026.
  • Apollo carries the credit risk itself: Athene must pay annuity holders even when the loans it buys go bad.
  • Equity pay has shrunk: Apollo shares fell 6% to $122.60 on June 24, 2026, after the second withdrawal cap.

What makes Apollo Global unique

  • Apollo owns its biggest client: it managed $415.7 billion for retirement insurer Athene as of June 2026.
  • Insurance spreads earn as much as fund fees: Q2 2026 spread earnings were $877 million versus $785 million in fees.
  • Lending, not buyouts, drives Apollo: 86% of its fee-earning assets sit in private credit.

SpaceX signs $40B Apollo chip-financing deal as AI debt costs climb

SpaceX has signed a binding commitment for about $40 billion in chip financing with Apollo Global Management, as rising AI debt costs weigh on the market. Final pricing and closing are pending, with closing expected by year-end. An Apollo-managed entity would buy equipment, including Nvidia chips, and lease it to SpaceX for about five years. The structure aims to keep the debt off SpaceX's balance sheet and protect its investment-grade rating. The priciest portion could cost up to 8.75%, Semafor reported, against 6.65% on SpaceX's priciest June bonds. SpaceX's Super Intelligence division posted $7.56 billion in third-quarter revenue, but capital spending reached $16.44 billion. Elon Musk warned that debt markets have nearly shut off money for companies without substantial revenue beyond AI data centres. He predicted consolidation among more than 200 neocloud providers.

Apollo's Slok: AI has delivered "zero financial payoff" outside tech as S&P 493 margins lag at 10%

Apollo Global Management chief economist Torsten Slok says artificial intelligence (AI) has delivered "zero financial payoff" to corporate America outside tech. He made the case in a note on Saturday. Revenue per employee at the Magnificent 7 has reached roughly $780,000 on an inflation-adjusted basis, against about $525,000 for the other 493 S&P 500 companies. Profit margins are nearly 30% for the Magnificent 7 and around 10% for the rest. Slok says AI spending is highly concentrated. The top 10% of firms account for 99.5% of spending on model serving and inference, and 95.7% of cloud spending. "The AI story will be decided in the S&P 493, not the Mag 7," he said.

SpaceX signs up Apollo and Nvidia for a new Grok partner network.

SpaceX signs up Apollo and Nvidia for a new Grok partner network. More than 130 companies joined early as SpaceX tries to sell its AI to businesses. October 22, 2026 - 5:00 pm SpaceX has launched the Super Intelligence Partner Network for companies that deploy or build on Grok, with Apollo, Nvidia, Snowflake, Databricks, Bain and more than 130 firms joining early. It follows a quarter in which SpaceX's AI unit turned a profit, mostly from renting out computing power. SpaceX has launched a partner programme to help businesses use its Grok AI, Bloomberg reported on Thursday. Apollo Global Management, Nvidia and more than 130 other companies signed up early. The Super Intelligence Partner Network includes data firms Snowflake and Databricks and consultancies Bain & Company and Booz Allen Hamilton, SpaceX said. Some partners will help companies roll out Grok across their business. Others will build plugins that link Grok to tools customers already use. Partners get training and support, and their staff can take SpaceX's course for "forward deployed engineers", who work inside customer companies. Galatiq, a firm that supplies such engineers, is among the members. The push comes days after SpaceX said its AI unit had overtaken Starlink in revenue. The unit also turned a profit in the third quarter, mostly from renting out computing power at its Memphis data centres rather than from selling Grok, Bloomberg said. Grok's business use is growing, though. Grok Bot, the AI agent it launched in August, had more than 800,000 paying weekly users in October. That is double the month before, SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell said on Tuesday's earnings call. Companies are "increasingly using Grok Bot as a force multiplier across sales, marketing, IT and engineering, treating it as an always-on teammate for complex end-to-end workflows," Shotwell said. SpaceX has long trailed OpenAI and Anthropic in selling AI to businesses. In May, Reuters reported that Grok had made little headway with US federal agencies. Earlier this month, Musk said Grok Bot would also tap Anthropic's Claude when it gives better results. SpaceX has since closed a $60B deal for coding startup Cursor. It has also leaned on companies close to Elon Musk. Apollo was among the first Wall Street firms to test Grok, after it helped finance chips for SpaceX's AI unit, Bloomberg has reported. Apollo to buy majority stake in $2B UDR portfolio.

Apollo to buy majority stake in $2B UDR portfolio. Apollo Global Management is poised to acquire a two-thirds stake in a portfolio of more than 7,000 apartment units from multifamily REIT UDR. Funds managed by the investment giant are expected to invest $1.34B of equity capital in a newly formed joint venture with UDR, which will retain a one-third interest. The joint venture, valued at about $2B, will own a portfolio of 19 UDR apartment communities totaling 7,059 units, according to a release. "With this transaction, we believe we will be positioned to take advantage of compelling opportunities in the marketplace, while improving the quality of our wholly-owned portfolio and strengthening our balance sheet," UDR CEO Tom Toomey said in a statement. The portfolio will have an average revenue per apartment unit of $2,058 and an age of 39 years, according to the release. The implied capitalization rate is about 6% for the portfolio. The communities have been stabilized for two consecutive calendar years and were not in the process of substantial redevelopments, according to investor documents. The transaction is expected to close on Oct. 29, subject to closing conditions. "We expect the transaction to be accretive to earnings and intend to deploy the proceeds into higher-growth assets and other general corporate purposes," UDR Chief Financial Officer Dave Bragg said in a statement. "Proceeds will also be utilized for debt reduction, strengthening the balance sheet at an opportune moment." Apollo made a similar move in August, giving $1B to Starwood Real Estate Income Trust to acquire a 41.5% stake in the equity interest of an affordable housing portfolio made up of 120 properties. As of the end of September, UDR owned or had an ownership position in about 61,000 apartment units. It sold two apartment communities in Seattle and Nashville in the third quarter, with a combined 412 units.

Discover more Start Investing Plan Finances The initiative covers direct lending, asset-backed finance, multi-credit and opportunistic credit. According to Simply Wall St, Apollo plans to make asset-level pricing available for applicable funds beginning October 30, 2026. Three milestones define the rollout. The chronology shows a clear progression. On July 1, 2026, Apollo launched daily pricing for its investment-grade fixed-income replacement products, according to Simply Wall St. On August 4, 2026, Apollo reported second-quarter fee-related earnings of USD 785 million, up 25 percent from the prior-year quarter, as summarized by TickerScout. The October 2 expansion then extended daily pricing across the USD 850 billion credit platform, according to Simply Wall St. What does USD 850 billion mean? The figure is the scale of the credit platform rather than a new revenue measure. More frequent pricing, standardized asset information and secondary trading infrastructure are designed to give investors clearer visibility into private credit valuations. That matters because daily pricing is an estimated fair value, not a market-clearing transaction price, according to Simply Wall St. Two dates matter for Apollo. The next operational date is October 30, 2026, when asset-level pricing is expected to begin for applicable funds. Apollo's next reporting date is November 3, 2026, before the New York Stock Exchange opens, according to Apollo Global Management. For the third quarter ended September 30, 2026, Apollo estimated alternative net investment income of USD 375 million before tax, equivalent to a 10 percent annualized return. The estimate was disclosed in an October 5, 2026 filing by Apollo Global Management. Discover more investment Read Economics Track Investments Euro quote for German investors.
