Requirements
  • Grade 12 education.
  • Community Support Worker Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in community social services or health care.
  • Current Emergency First Aid/CPR and Food Safe certificates.
  • Previous behaviour management course or training.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with team members, professionals, families, and community members.
  • Non-verbal communication skills.
  • Unrestricted Class 5 driver's license; a Class 4 license is required when driving a commercial company vehicle.
  • Satisfactory driver's abstract.
  • Criminal record clearance for children and vulnerable adults.
  • TB test.
  • Moderate computer literacy.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure the supported persons’ rights and choices are respected and advocate as needed.
  • Interact effectively with people supported by the organization.
  • Empower the people supported to be full citizens of their community.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and documentation of Personal Service Plans.
  • Foster positive relationships with persons’ family members, professionals, co-workers, and community members.
  • Assist with activities of daily living and medication administration.
  • Apply behaviour management principles and strategies, including those addressing mental health needs.
  • Record daily activity and personal health information of the people supported in the case management database.
  • Work with the people supported to ensure their home is clean and well maintained, including daily food preparation and light housekeeping duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Education in criminology, psychology, social work, behavioural science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience supporting individuals involved with the criminal justice or forensic mental health system.
  • Demonstrated experience liaising and collaborating with Forensic Psychiatric Services, probation offices, clinicians, and justice partners.
  • Knowledge of risk management, safety planning, and behaviour support strategies for individuals with complex behavioural needs.
  • Experience supporting individuals with dual diagnosis, mental challenges, or offence-related risk factors.
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice, professional boundaries, and maintaining safety within a staffed residential environment.
