Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree in computer science or an information-technology-related degree and 7–10 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of modern Site Reliability Engineering practices, including automation, resilience engineering, observability, fault tolerance, Service Level Target and Service Level Agreement adherence, and incident analysis.
  • Experience producing monitoring reports, Service Level Target assessments, postmortems, and operational dashboards.
  • Experience with Jira and GitHub.
  • Competency maintaining Incident Response Plans, Disaster Recovery Plans, and backup and restoration plans, and executing continuity operations.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills for reporting outages, Service Level Target performance, and incident updates.

Responsibilities
  • Apply Site Reliability Engineering practices, manage cloud environments, perform patching and automation, ensure compliance with required Service Level Targets, support deployments, handle incidents, and maintain monitoring, observability, and operational documentation.
  • Maintain all environments in an operational state across the VA Enterprise Cloud, including application and system hardware, 24x7x365.
  • Apply operating-system and application patches and perform backup and restoration activities.
  • Support software releases, often outside core hours, and validate maximum load after production deployment.
  • Manage and optimize cloud resource utilization, including capacity planning and forecasting.
  • Implement Site Reliability Engineering practices and patterns to improve reliability, performance, automation, fault tolerance, telemetry, logging, and alerting across distributed and microservices architectures.
  • Improve fault tolerance for distributed and microservices systems when components or resources become temporarily unavailable.
  • Conduct trend analysis of system performance and resource utilization to forecast future demand and identify bottlenecks.
  • Implement real-time proactive monitoring dashboards that provide visibility into system health and alerting.
