  • Receive, review, and evaluate internal suspicious activity reports raised by employees and operational teams, including transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, diligence, operations, partner requests for information, and fraud notifications.

  • Ensure the team’s operational resilience through cross-training, documented playbooks and procedures, succession planning, and avoidance of single points of failure.
  • Drive quality checking through sampling, peer review, error reduction, and continuous improvement.
  • Implement process improvements to team efficiency and productivity, including agentic and Generative AI implementations.
  • Lead thematic and trigger-based reviews of clients, partners, and recent government or law-enforcement publications to inform the MLRO and Compliance Operations about emerging risks and their impact on VPL’s operations and risk profile.
  • Partner with Compliance Technology to improve Financial Crime Intelligence and Oversight tooling and support transformation programmes.
  • Own VPL’s financial crime management information framework, including Key Risk Indicators, and ensure the MLRO has ongoing visibility of financial crime control data and insights.
  • Collaborate with Compliance Operations and other second-line-of-defence functions, such as Quality Assurance, to produce VPL financial crime framework management information for MLRO oversight, Leadership Team escalations, Risk Committee or Board reporting inputs, and Business-Wide Risk Assessments.
  • Maintain and report on internal and external suspicious activity report registers and any Defence Against Money Laundering log; case outcome taxonomy and typology mapping; ageing and service-level-agreement dashboards, backlog thresholds, quality outcomes, and root causes; and trend analysis for clients, corridors, products, and network partners.
  • Work with MLRO teams at other Visa regulated entities to share intelligence and best practices.
  • Serve as VPL’s day-to-day interface for law-enforcement requests, including validating requests, handling responses appropriately, transmitting information securely, and maintaining a full audit trail.
  • Manage, process, and address incoming external due diligence questionnaires from clients and partners in line with agreed service-level agreements.
  • Lead end-to-end coordination of financial crime audits and independent framework reviews.
  • Act as the MLRO’s primary financial crime intelligence and oversight adviser and escalation point for management information, control framework issues, suspicious activity, and emerging typologies.
  • Lead the design and delivery of financial crime compliance training for Visa staff.
  • Support other members of the VPL MLRO function with business-as-usual work and transformation initiatives.
Desired Qualifications

About the company

Visa runs a global payment network that connects banks, merchants and consumers so card purchases and money transfers move between financial institutions. Its VisaNet system handles authorization, clearing and settlement, linking the bank behind a buyer's card with the bank that accepts a merchant's payment. The company earns fees from payment activity, transaction processing and international transactions, and sells fraud prevention tools, payment software and consulting services to businesses. Banks and other partners issue Visa branded cards and use its technology to build their own payment products. Visa traces its roots to a Bank of America card program launched in 1958 and is headquartered in San Francisco.
